How can greeders be personaded to STOP their breeding activities or at least make very sure people aren't buying a puppy to fill their lockdown hours.   Even partial lock-down hours.

Trouble with greeders is they just don’t care.

All those poor confused puppies being dumped, makes me sick

Slightly different subject but just watched a slot on the news talking about the same with horses.
Big increase in abandoned horses since covid .
Its dreadful money is such a driver

Only way would be if  they had to contribute to the costs of dealing with the abandoned pups.

By law pups have to be chipped by the breeder so it should be possible to trace where they came from.

A letter sent to these breeders might make the casual one off pet ones think again.

On the other hand if a lot of pups end up in rescue from one source perhaps passing info of activities to LA and HMRC to ensure they are licensed and taxed.

That's a good idea about the breeder being chased - trouble is these good ideas sometimes have bad unintended consequences.   On the positive, hopefully these pups can find their loving forever homes because it is clear the original owners weren't that.

If Anyone hears about Lagotto puppies or older dogs in the rescue please let me know.
We have been looking for months but cannot find any.
Shame that people breed dogs for money like that, and shame on people taking those pups and throwing them away.

Your very unlikely to get a Lagotta in a rescue.

Any needing rehoming should come back to their breeder to help do so, as that is what good breeders do.

It's not very often that you'd find a Basset, or a Whippet even in a Shelter although some unfortunately end up in Breed specific Rescues.  More like is they go back to their breeder, which of course, is what should happen.

I did decide not to go for another rescue just yet but I have still been looking and in truth, there's not been much out that.   So with a rare (?) breed like a Lagotta (which I confess I have to look up about ), I'd say virtually impossible.   You might find an older one a breeder might prefer to get into a fireside home in their retirement however.

There’s a Lagotto at one of my ringcraft classes, he’s a lovely boy.
