Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Breeding restrictions?
- By guest [gb] Date 05.03.03 13:44 UTC
I really want to sell my puppies with a breeding restriction on them.

I don't want people using them for endless breeding.

Do you think by putting a breeding restriction on my puppies, I will still be able to sell them, or will people be put off?

Hiya guest , you might like to Register with us and then you can join in with the answers and maybe get to ask some more questions? :)

As to breeding restrictions ..anyone who really wants a puppy for a per home shouldn't be bothered about breeding restrictions , anyone that wants to show their pup , will hopefully be able to demonstrate to you whether or not they have a pup GOOD enough to breed from when the time comes. So in answer to your question ...no , it shouldn't put genuine people off , only the folks who want to breed indiscriminantly :)

IMHO ;)

to be able to enforce the breeding restriction you do have to supply something to the buyers in writing that you both sign. When you explain the reasons for the endorsements, and if and when they might be removed, I have never had a problem.

Most breeders in my breed now do this, though when I bred my first litter 8 years ago, only a few did.

I did wonder if it would affect peoples desire to purchase in case they thought it meant they were of poor quality re breed standard or health.

Just out of curiosity how do you keep track and make sure this is being held to ? Say for example the new owner moved away and went back on the contract ?

Endorsements won't stop an unscrupulous person breeding from the dog, but unless the KC has received instruction to lift the endorsement/s from the breeder, the puppies won't be registered.

Unfortunately that wont matter to the more unscrupulous out there .
As we seem to have a lot of queries about Dog Lovers Registration about at the moment .
To the inexperienced owner this is seen as just as acceptable :(
