hi everyone

I hope you are keeping well and safe.

I've recently started my veterinary assistant course and loving it. I've noticed that most regular posters here have huge amounts of genetics knowledge - genes involved in colouring, conditions etc.

I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a good source to learn from - either a course I would pay for, or a good reliable free resource? I'm nervous about "just googling" because the information I'm finding seems very dodgy,  like how to breed funny colours which I'm not interested in.

I want to start breeding in the future, and want to know more about breeding properly to kc standards and for premium health.

Thanks
Shona

This site is great for info on colour genetics and also includes a page on basic genetic terms.
http://doggenetics.co.uk

For health conditions if there is a genetic test for them the labs running the tests will have some info on them also a google scholar search can bring up research into it. Breed clubs may also have information for conditions in their breed.

Just rember when it comes to breeding and percentages the chance pecents are for each puppy So for example sex has a 50/50 chance this doesn't mean that 50% of a litter will be boys but that each puppy has a 50% chance to be a boy. I was told its ment to average out over a 100 litters but I always found it easier to just work it by each pup.

I'd day join the Kennel Club academy.

They have on-line resources/courses.

The KC academy is accessed through the dashboard of your KC account now and whilst much of the new website is still problematic these resources seem readily available and easy to use. I’ve been watching the breed specific videos which I’ve found very interesting.
