Hi. We've joined today because we've waited and tried to get any medium size rescue dog tor 9 months to no avail as we have a visiting 3 year old grandson on a  weekly basis. I've given up on the rescue as we've been turned down for every dog and decided a retriever pup is the way to go, my dream dog ♥️as I've wanted one for years after loosing our collie 3 years ago. We're on guide dog sites for dogs that don't make it or are retiring.. Basically I'm fed up waiting. How long is the wait... Roughly before you all got your pups. Sorry its long winded

I could be wrong but guide dogs that dont make it and need rehoming are not necessarily pups and most are over a year old.

Why has the rescue refused you for every dog?

I know your fed up of waiting but being patient for the right dog is worth it. Do not buy from a puppy farmer or bad breeder. There more crafty then you think and can easily make you think there a good , caring breeder.

I'd suggest spending time first with breeds your interested in and be certain there the breed for you. And spend time getting to know who are good breeder in the breed and get on a waiting list of a good breeder.

Yes this means more waiting but too many people rush in and just want a dog and then when they have realise they have got the wrong dog for them.

Please be patient and take the time to find the right breed\dog.

Sorry  cant answer your question directly except that buying a puppy atm is really hard and very expensive
Many resoonsibke breedershave postponed breeding and lups thay are aprind are often from less responsible.sources
You best bet  would be to.contact
breeders and find out breeding plans for.the future u may then beable to go on a waiting list but thy could be a year or so.
I assume rescues are not happy about a young child visiting . Have u tried different rescues as I know.there are some who will.consider people with children but its not easy sadly

Agree with furriefriends, good breeders are breeding due to covid and most will be a year or so wait. But its worth the wait

Well if I am lucky I may have a puppy in February after joining the waiting list in March, and I bred the mother!!

Very strange for me to be waiting, after breeding myself for 25 years.

So if it's a puppy, you could expect to wait 6 months plus.

The bitch I am waiting on is in season, will hopefully be mated next week, and pups hoped for in December and would be ready for homing February.

The longer ahead you get on a eaiting list of a planned litter, the better your chances.

FWIW I intended to go for an older dog, whether from a rescue organisation or via 'contacts' after we lost Frankie.   However, absolutely nothing, other than a very big Lurcher who really wasn't what I (or he) wanted, turned up and still hasn't so in the meantime, it's made me decide not to go for another dog but to let my Whippet, who will be 12 this month, live out her days and then see where we are.  I'd hoped that at least my contacts might have come up with something but early days, my number one contact in my main breed, said there was absolutely nothing around.

What happens when my Whippet dies, I really don't like to think about to be honest

From the rescue side, every rescue is being inundated with adoption requests at the moment.  It's the rescue version of covid puppy fever.  So they can afford to be very picky about where their dogs go.

With all those potential adopters too, suitable dogs will be flying out as soon as they come in, especially those that are safe with young kids, so I'm not surprised you've been hitting dead ends.

I've seen quite a lot of 5-7 month old puppies being advertised at the moment, from people who didn't realise the work which would be involved when they got one during lockdown - so if you're prepared for a puppy which is a bit older, you might find one...
