A month ago I had a local builder in for quotes on some work, and they are now back.

At the time he mentioned that he has Chows, and that his bitch had recently been in season, and his male pup had mated her, and he hoped she wasn't pregnant..

I told him about Alizin, and that it could be given from when her season ended, and up to 42 days after.

Today he told me that the Vet told him it was non essential, and that at 6 monthsbthenpup was too young to get her in whelp.

He told me today that he had just had her to the vet, she is huge, with about 2 weeks to go.

The bitch and dog have had no health testing.

how ridiculous, what hope is there if the vet doesn't understand the risks ?
Poor owner, I do hope the bitch and pups are OK after such stupidity

I am gobsmacked. It’s not the first time I’ve heard of this happening unfortunately.

6 month old pup wouldn't be able to produce sperm.
What school did that vet go to.
Having a good laugh here.

I suspect he was not told anything like that by the vet- and has seen the prices puppies are fetching so an oopps litter suits him quite nicely. Blaming the vet means he gets to maintain innocence

My first collie was the product of a 10 year old bitch & a 5 1/2 month old dog mating. Bitch had a silent season too & as the pups closely resembled the dog both in looks & working style there was no doubt. However this was over 50 years ago & science has moved on since then.

Sadly so many vets still don't like to use drugs to stop pregnancies & fail to advise their clients correctly. So little training for reproduction is included in veterinary courses, especially about dogs & puberty. I know of one who told the owners of a in season 6 month old bitch that their pup couldn't get pregnant during their first season!!

Is the owner lying?  Could be however if he expects to get silly money for the puppies, he's probably missed the boat.

It definitely happens though. My good friend asked her vet about Alizin after I told her about it and the vet said it didn't exist!

Its madness isn't it.
I was talking to a vet as my girl started some odd behaviour a few months ago and there were slight concerns about possible pyo. I said if there was and early then I would want Alizin as this can treat it and also ab's, the response was no we would spay. Er no i have that decision on me. As it was nothing was found and she is back to normal.
Why do some vets not like using Alizin for the purposes it was made for? Its not cheap by any means either and usually has a fairly high success rate
