Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Late season help ..

I have a 5yr old bitch who had a litter in October 2019, she then went on to have a season in March 2020. Before her litter she cycled every 5months along with her dam. Since having her litter she is no longer in sync with her Dam.
After her season in March 2020 she was not mated, but did have a rather long phantom pregnancy. Can this delay the next season ?
Is there anything I can do from a natural perspective to bring her into her season?

Thanks in advance

Nope. Just have to be patient.

I have often found cycles in bitches that had close seasons when younger, go onto a more normal 6 - 8 month pattern as they get older.

I have also found seasons after a litter to be delayed by 4 - 8 weeks, than if not mated.

I have also had bitches as much as 2 months late in season, for no apparent reason, especially when waiting to mate them.

It's called 'Sod's Law'.

Can I ask if there's any reason why she needs to have another litter, if that's why you are waiting?    I had just one who came in bang on 6 months and then started cycling every 5 months.   All my other girls didn't start until they were around 8 months, and cycled at that interval.   And more often than not, if one was in season, it tended to bring the others in.   I had that bitch spayed without issue and kept her to the end of her days as a much loved pet, as they all were.     I didn't think she was that good to be honest although as a pup, she did some good winning.

To be honest, especially if she's now had a false pregnancy which may keep happening after every season, I'd get her spayed now and be done with it.

Normally I'd say enter her at an important show you're really keen on getting to, but at the moment that doesn't work!
