Goldmali:  Exciting & Long Awaited Results for everyone certainly but not an emergency surely?  As the thread begins, only a blip not lifethreatening...these projects take time
- By Hoggie [gb] Date 01.10.20 20:53 UTC
Goldmali:  Please don't make an arguemetn out oft this thread.  I did not say I only used to the My KC site to list dogs.  I merely asked the Forum to be more patient before 'dissing' the whole Kennel Club Website Project and made a statement that we all know who our dogs are - assuming that statement is true?  Should the site be given a 'bedding in period' before judgements are made?  That was my point
- By furriefriends Date 01.10.20 20:55 UTC Upvotes 8
Omg not another thread that's becoming tiresome. instead of informative
It feels like that punk rock band is setting up again
- By Garbo [gb] Date 01.10.20 20:59 UTC Upvotes 7
My thoughts exactly! .... Here we go again
- By Hoggie [gb] Date 01.10.20 21:03 UTC
Garbo & Furriefriends: Where is all this sarcasm coming from?  There is no need to be calling threads down just because there is a different approach to the Forum's judgements. I strongly believe the My KC site will be better when 'cleaned up' and this is what this thread is about and that can't be argued, Sorry!

Goldmali,

Your reasons are all the reasons I check it for too.
It is vital and having access to what we had before is imperative. Im hoping that it all comes together as it was before.

Well as I am mentoring several people who are looking at the merits of available dogs to use, and in one case to check they finally have updated Health Test results in time to appear on Puppy documents it is infuriating.

They could have left the MYKC part of the site running, while they beautified the General site to make it more useful to the General Public, and provide so much information on Health, Genetics, Breeding Gene Pools etc in an accessible form.

But for those who are already deeply involved in our breeds and Dog breeding, the vital tools are Pedigrees, Health Test results compared to parents and relatives etc.

Preferably in an uncluttered form.

All we needed was more in depth info on what we already had, for example to have options for more generations of pedigrees.

For dogs repeating in pedigrees to be highlighted with their % influence.  A % against any dog/bitches name who had offspring showing their current influence on the population. This could point out over use of individuals, that can be cumulative.

They should have left MYKC running while they did this.

We have now been without the ability to check important informatuon for several weeks.

Even before computerisation I always tried to find out Dogs and their offspring and relatives Health test results via information from the BRS reproduced in our breed Club journals.

By rejecting unsuitable studs without contact with the owner you can avoid offending/alienating them.

Knowing how many litters they had was very important to avoid breeding myself into a corner.

Unfortunately this information was often up to a year before.

Having the information on hand was a Gidsend, and we all hoped it would be improved, as it was far more basic than some overseas Kennel Club Databases, that are far more in depth.

Have a wander here.

I have worked in IT for nearly 30 years and been involved in numerous major software upgrades. The longest scheduled outage for any upgrade I have known has been 12 hours so I was staggered when I saw the message on the KC site which said words to the effect “We are hoping to be be back in a couple of weeks”.

I can’t believe how little criticism the KC have received for the implementation of this supposed upgrade

I also had no dogs or partner on mine, I’ve submitted a missing info form. I’ve been trying to look up a Pedigree of a stud dog, It was disappointing to see they don’t have that 3 generation format anymore. It takes a lot of clicking for something that before was available in one click. I used to screenshot pedigrees, yesterday I used a pen and paper! Maybe they think it will sell more of their printed pedigrees?
Its good to see they have added titles to dogs but thats the only thing they should of changed.

>HIP SCORES:  Picky - your Vet gets confirmation of Hip & Elbow Scores before you do and are your point of call for results

Not at all; they're invariably on MyKC before the vet receives them; in fact the KC published my last ones over 2 weeks before my vet received them, and that was only because we chased the BVA.
- By kayenine [gb] Date 02.10.20 08:36 UTC Upvotes 9
I work in IT too and frankly if I'd released something that was so bad and untested, it would be immediately backed out and I'd be in a lot of trouble for not testing it or getting user acceptance testing done before release!
And why on earth did it take 2 weeks to release, overnight should have been more than sufficient.

Mine are always on mykc before I get them back and as I use marilyn the results are posted to me and others, no phone calls

The KC site has been unavailable for most of September, so it is not just one day.  Also stud dog owners may need to check the details of a bitch when the owner contacts them about using one of their dogs (health tests, previous litters etc).  Very often in some breeds the request is at short notice so time is very important.

When I re-registered I could not look up any details of other dogs (and still cannot do so), in fact some details of my own dogs were not available.  The site is very slow and, dare I say, even worse than the original site, which was not the easiest to use; but listing your own dogs in chronological order was much better than the new system.

I would have expected any business to set up a new website alongside the existing one, check that it was working properly and that all the information had transferred correctly before removing the original website.

According to the KC, I don't own a single dog, have no kennel name and no ABS membership. Absolutely pathetic!
- By Ryan C Date 02.10.20 22:19 UTC Upvotes 5
Couldn't agree more. The idea that any audience facing element of a site should be down for more than a period of hours to switch to a rebuilt/updated version is incomprehensible. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they may be cheaping out and doing the whole update on live over the two weeks downtime but to actually go live with what couldn't even be consivered a minimum viable product is shocking to say the least.

One of my dogs, bred by me, and at present in partnership appeared on my list of dogs on 1st October 2020 when the list was not in chronological order.  Now that the list has been put in chronological order this dog has disappeared and a search for him elicits "no results found".  Cannot look up any pedigrees either for my own dogs (other than sire and dam but no further back) or a possible stud dog not owned or bred by me.  This is a completely pathetic system.  I tried typing in this dog's name and then one of my bitches to check the inbreeding coefficient - it offered me the bitch mated to herself!!!  Was the system designed or being operated by a 2 year old?
- By Thom [gb] Date 03.10.20 09:46 UTC Upvotes 1
No, I can't find My KC either, and I've been writing furious emails to the KC about it. They don't reply with anything relevant. Their new website is even worse than their old one, to my mind, and that was awful anyway!
- By kersfrll [gb] Date 03.10.20 09:48 UTC
How did you find the pedigree of a possible stud dog because I have tried to do this and cannot get anywhere?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 03.10.20 10:13 UTC Upvotes 2
Pen and paper, (or open your pedigree template on PC) seems only way (at present?).

Go into health test finder, (it's an option in your account now) and find him.

Click on each of his parents, write down their parents, click on their names to get their parents, then repeat for each ancestor.

Have you a headache yet?
- By Hoggie [gb] Date 03.10.20 10:53 UTC
kersfrll:  KC Website decisions:  I too perhaps believe the contractor of the redesigned website was chosen with some kind of cost implication resulting in a less than perfect change over.  If anyone has influence with the KC Technical Site perhaps requests from users to supply a Guide as eg Windows 10 do with any new feature might be an option?  only a suggestion ....
- By Hoggie [gb] Date 03.10.20 11:01 UTC
Jeangenie:  Hip & Elbow Score Results:  Glad KC have been the ones to get your results to you quicker than your Vet, unfortunately I have never had that same luck and always been advised by my Vet.  I found if I contacted the KC they would tell me to get in touch with BVA who again in my experience re directed me back to my Vet yet again.
- By Hoggie [gb] Date 03.10.20 11:13 UTC
Thom:  They don't reply with anything relevant: Perhaps the replies are automated depending on your issue and I agree there is nothing more frustrating especially when I experienced this when trying to contact a particular government helpline.  When I did eventually speak to someone I was advised that sending multiple emails only 'clogged' up the system and meant no-one was being replied to quickly.  (they also put the furious/rude ones to the back of the Q).  It was an insight and a sharp learning curve for me!  Hopefully you will receive some coherent responses soon...

I received an automated reply to my email.

I advised of my shock at not having access for several weeks, a real issue for those with time sensitive need to use the site.

I pointed out that the New main site seems designed to be more accessible and educational for the General public, (a great move if only people would use it) but removing the vital MYKC has proved a real problem, and what is currently available is not fit for purpose to breeders and serious dog folk, and we need it back in similar but more in depth form.

One good think on the Health test results for individual dogs is that Elbow Scores are shown in full for both sides seperately and Total. This then distinguishes 0/1 = 1 from 1/1 = 1.

I think they have prioritised the wrong part if the re-vamp, the breeder services and tools were needed to be rolled out first.
- By Hoggie [gb] Date 03.10.20 16:16 UTC
Brainless: KC: Totally agree with you that the new site is more geared to the General Public at the moment. There has been a huge emphasis in the Media & on TV regarding our New Owners accessibility and information gathering which is a real necessity nowadays and something I welcome but I have often had to advise those of the 'look up a dog section'  as the KC do not advertise this option in their 'Puppy Buying' Guide. Maybe that could be something added to the more 'indepth form'. The ABS Scheme maybe another area that should have been upgraded. I still believe the CD site is more useful to potential new owners & is the only site I upgrade regularly. Does anyone have an 'action plan' that would have any impact on KC Management? I doubt there will be an option to give Feedback. No Dogs listed on my account so seems all Breeders are irrelevant.
- By Hoggie [gb] Date 03.10.20 17:24 UTC
Brainless:  Elbow Scores: So pleased about L/R scores are being reported separately & then jointly...gives a whole new meaning to how scores are assesed.  Trauma to one elbow joint can now be considered without elbow dysplasia being diagnosed and can't be seen to completely right off a dog for breeding who is fantastic in every other way. Maybe that's why KC have never given any recommendation on a 1 score?

I can't even get to register my litter (ABS) online, all dogs disappeared and it wont let me add dog manually
- By Hoggie [gb] Date 06.10.20 18:55 UTC Edited 06.10.20 20:33 UTC
Star:  Litter Registration: Are you still having the same issues or have you been able to negotiate the new way of doing this on KC Site?  Be very appreciative of your help if you have. Concerned I may have the same problems when I come to register my next litter on line though.

THE MAIN MISTAKE THEY HAVE MADE IS TAKING DOWN MYKC.

As I understood it MYKC ran alongside the main site, and a BREEDER account gave experienced dog people the tools we need it, albeit in a shallower and clunkier form than some Great overseas sites like Koiranet.

I have to say that the Main website, from what I can see has improved for the General Public.

I had a little look in Find a Puppy, and put in the most popular breed.

You are then able to click on parents names to check on their record.

This will show you if they are Health tested, and how many offspring they have.

This is a good idea, and would help someone with some knowledge to see the quality of the breeding.

The first one I checked, the mother had NO health testing, and carried the KC's own affix, this is her first litter.

The sire has 5 DNA test results and Hips and Elbows. He has sired 3 litters.

The litter all carry the KC affix.

Before you get to find a Puppy there are advice resources along the way.

Are you ready for a dog, avoiding puppy farmers etc.

I haven't clicked through other aspects, but notice under breeding, that there is advice all along the way, but haven't seen how it works yet.

I too have emailed the KC expressing my dissapointment at the suspension of services, but pointing out what I hoped they would put in place/return.
- By RozzieRetriever Date 10.10.20 09:53 UTC
Having had time to explore and digest the new site I would agree with you. I also like the easy access to the KC Academy resources. However I’m still missing dogs in my profile and my affix is missing - only had it five minutes, am gutted! Hopefully the bits that aren’t up to scratch will be soon. Still no hip and elbow scores and I’m now hearing results from other people tested after my girl. And I have checked the vets....!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.10.20 10:22 UTC
On Facebook someone was unhappy that 'too much information' was available on advertised litters

Made me wonder what they wanted to hide?

Contact details are only those the adveriser chooses to disclose.

If I was helping someone find a puppy, I would steer them away from the sample litter I looked up, where the dam had no health testing, even though sire appears to have the lot.

With hips and Elbows no way would I rely on just his results, and he is a carrier for one DNA testable issue!!!!
- By Star [gb] Date 18.10.20 19:46 UTC
I rang and was on hold for 3 hours but they did it there and then so worth the wait
- By onetwothreefour Date 19.10.20 15:34 UTC Edited 19.10.20 15:37 UTC
Ok, I just checked and my dogs have appeared in my account now.

But how do we look up pedigrees??? Where is MyKC? How do I look at who the mother and father of a dog is without some really convoluted round the houses amount of clicking???
- By RozzieRetriever Date 19.10.20 15:45 UTC
Yay!! I have dogs too! Unfortunately I think the convoluted round the house way is the only way at present, haven’t found another option.
- By Jodi Date 19.10.20 15:52 UTC
Same here. My dog has at last appeared but it rather an odd way of displaying the pedigree (or not displaying really).
