Topic Dog Boards / Health / Any boxer folk out there?

Out walking today I spoke to a lady with a beautiful Boxer boy. He’s been diagnosed with heart issues, so out of idle curiosity I was looking up health tests in Boxers. Apparently breed clubs recommend heart testing for Aortic Stenosis and the KC require/suggest hip testing. Yet when I look up health test results on KC Health Checker I can’t find any results at all for the Boxers I looked up (admittedly not a huge sample) even those with a stud book number and multiple litters to their name. So I’m curious now, are health tests not done/not considered important in the Boxer world? This is not not a breed I know anything about, but it made me wonder how anyone looking for a healthy puppy Boxer could make an informed decision about their purchase?

I had Boxers when the problem with Aortic Stenosis was discovered there were lists of dogs who had been tested but I don't know if the KC accepts them so that could be why you can't find anything on KC health test results.

The British Boxer Club has a Health section on their website

As for HD no idea. I have been out of Boxers since 1997 and I remember then it wasn't considered a problem in the breed....

Hope that might be of some help

There isn't a BVA /KC heart testing scheme for Boxers, which is why the results are not on the KC site.

AS for HD/ED all breeds should be scored as no breed/cross breef/ type can be totally free from them, as they are not 100% genetic

Thank you both for replying, I was somewhat confused as I’m accustomed to seeing results and couldn’t work out why there were none! I will have a look at the boxer link, the boys pedigree is ‘interesting’.

It is interesting/saddening that for example under US statistics for hips the second  worst breed is the bulldog, the worst the Pug yet in UK very few are scored.

The Boxer ranks 95th worst, with 12.3% in the Dysplastic range ( roughly above BVA score 25 ). https://www.ofa.org/diseases/hip-dysplasia/hip-international-ratings-matrix
