Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Dog seems to be in pain after mating
- By Autumn [gb] Date 18.08.20 21:22 UTC
Hi I mated my female a few days ago by artificial insemination the clinic I used are very experienced but I’m just concerned as she made a yelping noise as the tube was inside. My female is acting herself and eating and drinking as normal she’s been sat on the couch with me and she’s just cuddled into me but she yelped again she’s done it a couple of times in the last hour she seems to be herself no signs of any infections coming from her vulva I am going to take her the vet in the morning just so he can examine her she hasn’t had a wee for at least a few hours anybody else had anything similar or could recommend what I need to look out for I’m aware of Pyometra but she’s showing no symptoms. I’m thinking he could of hurt her when she was done by AI.

Thanks

I had one of mine AI'd and she showed no similar symptoms - she had been mated before however.   Obviously your vet needs to examine her because this should not have happened (yelping - pain).

Be aware, there is open Pyometra where a discharge will be seen, but also a closed one, where it won't.   But the bitch would usually not be well.

Thanks for the reply I’m aware of open and closed Pyometra thanks  by the time I went to the vets she wasn’t showing an pain or anything she seems to be fine now I’m thinking she could of been scratched when the AI was performed.

Why was AI performed? Were you using imported semen?

The Stud owner would only allow AI.

 That's a shame. A natural mating often gives better results. I'm sure you're aware you need to declare that to the KC when you register the puppies though. There's a special form, not the usual one.

Yes I’m aware thanks But what your asking me and advising me has nothing to do with my original question
