Hi, I found a bulldog breeder on this site and he has contacted me to say he has a litter of puppies.
The puppies are around 4-5 weeks and ready to go next month. I have asked to view the puppies but I have been told I can’t that I have to pay a deposit and wait til they are older to view.
I’m just worried that I’m potentially parting with quite a lot of money without seeing the pups in person.
I understand that it’s just a viewing and that they aren’t ready to go.

Any help appreciated

Is the deposit refundable at all?

Paying a deposit before viewing is a no no in my book. Im hearing this happening more and more.. just no..
A good breeder does not ask for a deposit before meeting you and you them.. mind boggles..

He said pay now but can’t view until sept and he if I don’t want I can have a refund then. Just worried though as how will I know there is an actual puppy.

He has pictures of a previous litters on here and mentions crufts and another breeder.
I thought by going through this site that it was genuine.
I replied back saying that I’d like to view the puppy before paying the deposit and he hasn’t replied at all.

Google the breeder.
Look on Street View at his house if you’ve got the address.
Get on Facebook and everything you can think of.

8 years ago I put a deposit  on an unseen puppy, but the breeder came recommended and I googled her to death !

DO NOT part with any money at this point.   Chances are there may not even BE a litter of puppies and this is just yet another scam.   Who in their right mind would give a deposit for a puppy before they have even been seen.   We didn't let anybody (other than close relatives - few - or my neighbour) see our puppies until they were around 7 or even 8 weeks, with their ears dropping - at 5 weeks, they can look like Beagles for ear-length and many people unfamiliar with the breed at that young age, are disappointed.

Apart from the fact we didn't actually take a deposit, preferring to retain total rights to the puppies to the time they go to their vetted new homes.

I'd also suggest that no breeder in these times, NEEDS to contact a prospective buyer - people are looking for puppies where there are very few so if he does have a litter, he'd have had them booked - before they were even born, by all accounts.   This is very fishy and I advise you to walk/run!!  Frustratingly disappointing as it will be.

Sounds dodgy all round to me. Most good breeders don't take deposits and there should be no problem with allowing viewings of pups at that age.

sounds like a scam.  can understand not wanting loads of people round due to covid but they could let you look at in garden or through window.  Don't hand over any money will see pups
