Generally in humans and in animals can anti-biotics be used continually?  Usually one just has to finish the course.  I think my dog should continue forever because the minute she stops the problem comes back.  We are fed up with blood tests and biopsies that can never find a cause.  Surely we have found a course of action that works and that is all that matters.

I have heard of numerous cases where dogs have ended up staying on ABs permanently, for the same reason you've seen.  It's not ideal, but sometimes it is necessary.

We should hear any day now about the recent blood test that has to be done every 6 months for the thyroid. The vet was talking about more biopsies but we are refusing that. We shall stick to the plan of keeping her on the Rilexine.

It's done with success in humans too . I would give small amounts of live natural yoghurt or kefir to help with any lose good bacteria as well

What are the symptoms you're getting back when you stop the AB?
