Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all keeping well as can be.
Myself and my husband are based in SW Ireland. My husband has unfortunately recently been diagnosed with a long term illness that will require him to give up working full time outside the home. As a result though, we will finally have someone at home full time which means we can finally get involved in dog showing! We are quite excited about it, and it's a bit of a pick me up with the bad news.
So, I guess I am here to learn a little more. The breeds we are interested in are English Bulldogs and Miniature Dachshunds (long or short hair).
We have already had a look for local shows and hope to attend some in the coming months when things get back to normal. We want to know as much as we can about each breed before we consider buying a pup, and figured that this is the best place to start! You all have so much knowledge.
I suppose if anyone has any info on either breed that they would be willing to share we would appreciate it?
A bit of background on us; we have no children, we own a large home with an acre of land so lots of space, DH will be home all day from next May (ish). We have 2 JRT's already, who are not pedigree but are much loved family pets. We also had a Yorkshire (rescue) for a little while, but he did not get on with our male JRT and so we rehomed him. The JRT's are mostly outdoor/working dogs, they keep rats/mice in the field under control and the odd pigeon that gets in the way. They are still my darlings though, I couldn't imagine my life without them. We have just installed CCTV because of the awful spate of dog thefts in Ireland lately. We would love to be involved in showing and therefore want to invest in a good pedigree bitch.
Thanks for reading, nice to meet you all virtually!
Take Care

Thanks Sue, yes I figured the shows might be cancelled (still holding out hope for our local one next month!)
I tried contacting the Dachshund club but got no response. I think everyone is kind of shut down at the moment to try to cull the wave of puppy requests during the "lockdown". I will look up the Bulldog one now, thank you!
Yes, they are very different. I have always preferred the bulldog, but husband prefers the dachshund so I suppose it will come down to it in the end which breed will suit our home best! It's all very exciting.
