Hi everyone,
I’m Zoe, German Shepherd or doberman in the process of looking for the right one for me & my old boy.  I’m have epilepsy and hoping to get a young dog or puppy and train her (Bitch wanted) to support me (although i’m lucky to lead a active life Despite epilepsy). A German Shepherd or Doberman would give me a greater sense of security when out running or camping. My old man is a big softie - scared of spiders.

Of course keep to find right breeder so I know my new dog parents are well cared for and that my new dog is from good stock. Giving us the best chance at success training.
A sense of security and love a dog like this would mean the world.
If anyone has advice on finding the right breeder and dog for me please let me know.
Thanks.
Zoe and scrappy (14 year old rescue dog)

You really need to decide which breed you want, as very few breeders like people who contact them, saying they want X or Y.
Once you have decided, you can progress with your search far easier.

Thank you for your advice.
My main problem there is I’m happy for ether breed.
Both lovely dogs breeds, with ideal nature of training.
Can you contact breeder expressing an interest or do you have to wait for them to advertise puppies?

Like I said you need to decide on one breed, you can then contact breeders of that breed & find a breeder that suits you & them you, then wait until they have a litter rather than looking for a puppy.
Very few responsible breeders have been breeding since lockdown, although things seem to be easing a bit.
Prices across all breeds, have gone crazy by greeders, in many cases triple the cost what a puppy should be & their have been some horror stories.
I cant advise you on a price, you should be expecting to pay, as you have not stated one breed, also neither are my breed.

Thank you.

You have been very helpful.
My Ideal breed would be a Doberman.

I will start contacting breeders.

Thanks again.
Your advice is very much appreciated

Have you considered breed rescue ?  you may find a young dog there that would suit very well and if its stlightly older you will jave an idea of its character and possibilities for training as support  dog

Thank you for your reply.
I have indeed looked at rescues.
My current old boy is a rescue himself. Unfortunately, l’m finding it hard to find a rescue who is the breed I would like and who would the rescue place feels would run with another dog.
I do keep looking.
The two trainers I have spoken too, have recommended puppies or young dogs of breeds that are know for train ability.
As I’m not able currently to live a full life the dog and I would be companion. I would not be fully reliant on her: more confidents and comfort.

Thanks for your suggestions
Zoë

I was thinking  breed specific rescue rather than general rescue.there is a Doberman rescue if that's the breed u decide on as there is for gsd.

It is expected that now lockdown is eased and people go back to work and find out what the responsibility of owning a dog really means more may end up in rescue .
I would keep an eye out incase a suitable dog is taken in .otherwise u need to contact the breeders here and see what there plans are and how that would work out for u
