I wasnt sure where to post this. Im having trouble getting this injection for my male. Is anyone else experiencing difficulty? Or does anyone local to Staffordshire know of availability? Thank you in advance.

I tried to get some a few years ago and was told it wasn't used anymore, the suprelorin implant has superseded it. It's a shame because tardak was quick acting and short lived, I got my boy the 6 month implant and it lasted 2 1/2 years!

I must have been lucky to have got it last year for him :-/

Did you find the effects of Suprelorin were the same as tardak?

Yes, it takes a little longer to work but is very effective.

I think there were more side effects and adverse reactions with tardak, which is why it's been superceded by suprelorin.

Tardak or Delmadinone acetate is a progestin and antiandrogen one of the contraindications is adrenal insufficiency amongst others.

Suprelorin or deslorelin acetate is now the preferred drug as it accurately mimics castration better than Tardak, with less contraindications.

I have never liked Tardak as a behaviour adapter.

Yeah my vet said the same, still tardak was useful in an emergency. It didn't affect the size of their testicles either, so didn't affect their show careers whereas you can't show a dog with the suprelorin implant because their testes all but disappear.

Not true re showing as the dog is still entire & it's easy enough to get a Vet's letter accepted by KC as it's not a permanent operation to change a dogs appearance or correct a visual medical condition. Suprelorin is also used to treat prostate problems

Can't see why someone would need to use either Tardak nor Suprelorin on a showdog.
