Hi All, I have been thinking of getting together a h/pathic alternative first aid box for a while now & was wondering if any of the people who use them would like to give me suggestions on what I should buy to mke a box up please. I couple of the sites have kits already prepared but I think it might be better to make my own up :) So, any suggestions warmly appreciated folks :)

Hi Christine
When I got up this morning I was going to post exact same thing except not h/pathic, so when i saw your post didn't bother just waited to see what got posted here.
My own first aid kit for us humans in the house only consists of plasters and pain killers. So i was planning buying things in to make a proper one for us and thought i'd make one up for the dogs aswell, but daft as it is I don't know where to start.

Not daft just not thinking well today:D
Hi Alison, I picked up a peoples kit from boots a while back & the only thing I`ve used out of it is the plasters! :) I`ve stuck it in the car now. Think I might go for the suggested ones at the wesites. Have you got the websites for the suppliers? If you don`t I can fish them out later & put them on for you :)

Hi Gibbsy, thanks for the suggestions :) I`ve got a few books already, 2 are by George Mac Cleod, 1 by G.Llewwllyn & Pitcairn gives info in his health & nutrition book. I just thought people who have been using h/pathy for a long time would have some things in the house that they *wouldn`t be without* for an emergency or evryday cut`s/scrapes bumps/bruises sort of thing :)

Hi Christine
Thanks I would appreciate the links, I have been looking through this site recently www.hyperdug.com it is mainly equestrian supplies but does have a canine section. A while ago when i had bob's nails clipped they bled slightly and the woman used this yellow powder to stop the bleeding, does anyone know what this is she says she uses it for lots of different things, it was in a little round metal tin.
Alison

Hi Alison you could use styptic powder or permanganate to stop the bleeding if its due to catching the quick while trimming nails.Gillian

Hi Gillian
Can I buy it from pet shop or do I have to get it from vet's? Alison

You can get styptic pencils from the chemists found in the mens shaving department as its also used for shaving nicks:D Gillian

I keep a first aid kit of homoeopathic pills. The most important arnica 30c, give this for bruising and strains and especially for shock. Rhus Tox 6c can be used to relieve stiff muscles. Merc Viv and Arsen Alb can be given for a variety of digestive problems, the later being very good for diarrhoea. For slight eye problems such as runny eyes caused by dust then Euphrasia is a good starting point. I recommend that you try to buy a good book such as Homoeopathic Medicine for Dogs by H G Wolff, MVSc. Better still find yourself a good homoeopath who will mix and match treatments to suit individual dogs.
