Topic Dog Boards / Health / Tick Reaction

Last night I found a small tick on my 5 month Golden Retriever. She has had one before as have my other dogs and I carefully removed it as usual. However this morning she has about 3/4" swelling around the bite It is not red and neither is the area where the tick attached itself. Never had this before and am not sure whether to wait and see if it goes down or whether it is something I need to see the vet about. There was no surrounding swelling when I removed it and all her jabs are up to date.

Its quite common and should go down in a few days.
Have  been told it's a localised reaction to the bite much like a mosquito although non itchy . I wipe tick bites with a safe antiseptic or just alcohol after I've removed the tick
Of course if it worsens and spreads it would  need vet visit

Yes as ff says, it is normal.  Does seem to me that the smaller the tick the bigger the bump/swelling left behind.  It can last several weeks.

Thanks for the replies. I was just concerned as this had never happened before. I will keep an eye on it.

Always put a smear of antiseptic or antibiotic ointment on a tick bite after removing.
