Hi we are seeking a chocolate Labrador bitch puppy. We are a family of 5 living in a village on the edge of Worcester, we are surrounded by fields and countryside! We are in no rush to find the perfect dog for us but it seems a little crazy at the moment if anyone could help point us in the right direction? Thanks in advance for any advice :)

You will struggle to find any pup at the minute, but chocolate Labradors are all spoken for before they are born pretty much.  I'm afraid you will have to be patient and get on a waiting list very early, before pups are conceived even possibly.

This is my breed, and I can honestly say I do not know of any litters about at the minute, it might be a bit of a wait for a litter from a good breeder I'm afraid.

Definitely wait.  Thinking about my nephew who phoned me to ask whether his family should buy a Border Collie or a Choc. Lab puppy.   I said Choc. Lab and I'd find him some names.   Very sadly (typical of all this get it now - even if this was years ago) by the time I got back to him, which wasn't that long, he was with a Choc.Lab breeder and had put his money down.  That puppy had both hips and one shoulder operated on before he was a year old.   And was never really sound for his entire short life!  He went to a family with small children who were really upset when the boy had to be operated on.   I still feel the vet was a bit quick to do the surgery.  This was at a time when that colour Lab was all the rage amongst the yuppies and he found a BYB.

Now is not the time to be buying a puppy I'm afraid.   If you want one that's carefully bred and reared.

Sadly they are still a 'fashionable' colour, and I have seen programmes about puppy farmers where they are literally bred to death.  The new must have fashionable shade is now fox red, or, as it says in the UK BS, red fox, and some people get pretty annoyed when you point out the paperwork says 'yellow'.
