Hello all, I've not posted for yonks, years in fact!!

I'm asking for a friend, honest

I have a friend, an experienced breeder, who is expecting a litter of pups. She's concerned that she hasn't got enough newspapers, and can't get hold of any easily. It's for when the pups are 4 weeks plus. They're a medium sized breed (18-20kg when adult). Whilst I've got a ton of papers I'm 150 miles away, so unable to help  I've suggested tea bag paper, as I've seen people here, in the past rate it highly. I've not yet tried so I'm looking for recommendations for suppliers. I've Googled and there are a ton out there, but I'd prefer to suggest a supplier recommended from someone on here. Also, as not having used them before, what sort of quantity would you get through in a 4 weeks period (given the breed size quoted above)?

Many thanks for any recommendations.

I tried it a few years ago and found that the puppies just scattered it and I ended up with bare patches on the bottom of the whelping box and puppy pen. In recent years, when fewer people buy newspapers, I've used this https://www.globepackaging.co.uk/papers-envelopes/newspaper-offcuts.html

Could you send your newspaper via post?

Newspaper isn't much good for joints.  It is far too slippery so their legs slide about, predisposing them to hip dysplasia issues later on... good traction for puppies is essential....

Sadly it would cost a fortune, she can buy her own

I think it depends how you use it. I've been breeding a long time and found it absolutely fine, but then my pups use newspaper lined litter trays.

That's interesting. Not so successful then. Thanks for the link, I'll take a look.

I think the phrase I'm looking for is "good point well made"

Vet bed?

Never used it but always found that incon pads and vet bed work well. News paper under vet bed but tbh incon pads for humans cause less mess and make cleaning easier. Just be careful if the pups decide to chew on it, mine didn't

I use tea bag litter from about 4 weeks and it’s very good. Surprisingly absorbant and puppies stay much cleaner. The only downside is that it ends up all over the house unless you can make an effective border around your pen to contain it.
