My puppy lab started humping her teddy bear at the weekend and after howling with laughter for 5 minutes because this is my first bitch and I had no idea they did it as well. (thought I was avoiding the problem with a girl) I got out my puppy book and it said it could be her trying to show domination.
What confuses me though is that she always brings the teddy over to me and puts it in my lap or on my legs and then starts humping, and as yet she hasnt doen this with anyone else (although I am really the only one who sits on the floor with her).
Is she trying to dominate the teddy or me??????????????

Rachael,
Sometimes you have to take advice about dog behaviour with a small grain of salt.
Bitches hump because it feels good. Your puppy accidently got a hold of poor teddy one day in a spot that felt good and she just started doing what comes naturally. She's bringing teddy over to you because you are her mom and do stuff for her. Tell her "no" or she will quickly figure out your leg feels almost as good as a stuffed teddy.
Absolutely nothing to do with dogs, but I used to live near a farm. I was absolutely astounded one day to see a cow mount another cow and try to hump. Both of them had full udders, they were waiting by the barn because it was near milking time. I don't know if this was a sign of milk cow dominance behavior .. or just plain fun. :-)

I think you'll find cows do it when they are 'in season'....

Digger,
I did not get close enough to check on the cow in question. I hope they were both in the mood though, as I imagine it can be darn annoying if one is not.
