Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / progesterone tested but mixed due dates

My girl was progesterone tested on the 12th February  results were 49.2 nmol so she was taken to the stud immediately she stood and accepted the AI with no issues. we them returned on the 14th and she was reluctant and whined indicating to us her fertile period was over. fast forward 30 days we had her scanned to confirm and sacks and pups were seen , by day 45 she wasnt much bigger so scanned again. as I thought she had reabsorbed and wanted to check incase of a singleton. anyway the pups looked the size of around 35 days gestation which baffled me its 10 days out ! So i had another scanner come 3 days later when she should of been 48 days and she estimated 42 ish days we are now day 66 by first ai and day 60 by 2and scanners 42 day estimate. how much longer would you give her? I'm inclined to only give until monday and then section she is showing absolutely no sign these pups are coming anytime soon , they are nice and active and although uncomfortable she is eating drinking and toileting as normal, no discharge and temp is between 37.7 and 37.1 ( usually lower readings are at night ) the whole thing is a sh!t show and nothing I've experienced before

You can't go by the bitch's behaviour as to the fertile period and especially if you are doing AIs, you're not going to have much 'behaviour' to be going by.  Perhaps she decided she didn't like it the first time round and knew what was happening, the second.

Behaviour means not much when it comes to fertility.

It is notoriously difficult to accurately date due dates looking at pups on ultrasound, so those also are not reliable methods to determine due dates.  If you section too early, the pups' lungs will not have developed enough and they will die.

The only way to get an accurate due date is to do far more than just one progesterone test, so I'm afraid there really is no way of knowing what her due date is and it is best to allow things to progress as anyone else with zero information would allow... (ie without any progesterone or ultrasounds).

They were very clearly not 45 days gestation an experienced scanner will be able to give a good estimate of gestation and unfortunately as her progesterone test indicated she had already ovulated there is no reason why we would do anymore since she was mated that day .
And the thing is I do have information that is the concern I can ignore all that and leave her then end up with a litter of dead pups or I can section her and as semen can only live for 7 days I'm not willing to let her go beyond tuesday which is 7 days over due by progesterone ( which we are assuming the machine wasnt calibrated correctly) and mating .
My main reason for posting was to see if anyone else has encountered the same as I never have in 12 years of breeding although this breed is fairly new to me and I only have 1 litter of this breed under my belt so to speak

Just to add, we never had a 'Section done until the bitch was in at least first stage labour.

Unfortunately, having known scanners who have not even been able to determine pregnancy, let alone the exact due date, I wouldn't listen to their estimates at all when considering this.  The amount of knowledge needed to determine for eg, organ development within the foetus and to date accurately, is something that most scanners - whether vets or not, lack the ability to be able to do.

Yes, of course there's no need to do more after that progesterone result - which is why you should have started them earlier, to be tracking the rise of it and to have more information.  As things stand she could have ovulated a couple of days before that...

You should seek vet help (not necessarily a c-section - but an experienced opinion from a good vet) at 65 days after ovulation if there is no sign of labour.  I'd estimate ovulation to be 1-2 days before that progesterone result and work it out from that.
