Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / How are puppies going to get to their new homes?
- By Ukfetchfan [gb] Date 29.03.20 14:39 UTC Edited 30.03.20 08:53 UTC
I currently have a litter of puppies who are nearly six weeks old. They are due to go to their new homes in the week after Easter. The problem now with the travel restrictions imposed is how are owners to collect their pups? I have sought advice through the Kennel Club - but to date have received no response. ( I can understand they are snowed under with enquiries) They do have various updates on their site concerning Health Testing, the fact that vaccinations and microchipping has been stopped. All very difficult. What are other people doing particularly concerning the new owners collecting their pups.
Thanks for any ideas!

The current guidance is that collecting a puppy is NOT essential travel QED simple as that really. There was a KC announcement to this effect

Thanks for the link. It’s at this point I am absolutely delighted I only had 3 pups! Clouds and silver linings!

It states on the KC website they are working with DEFRA for guidance on this. We are due to collect a puppy in May and im hoping things will be made clearer by then.
Surely it becomes an animal welfare issue at some point, with reguards to health (ie vaccines) and socialisation. However i guess its not very high up on their priorities right now

Maternal immunity can persist well past the 10th week of age & presumably the puppy will not be leaving the breeders premises for a while where is the welfare vaccination risk ?

In France and Belgium and Germany, breeders are allowed to place puppies in new homes.  Only one person from the new home can collect the pup and the pup must be handed over in a travel crate - no spending ages at the breeder's house etc etc.
