Hi all. And thanks in advance for any replies. My dog is 63/61 days pregnant. 4 days ago she lost a gush if brown fluid as she stepped into her box then started losing green slime 4-5 hours later. I rang emergency vets they said weren’t worried just yet  5 hours later still the same so I took her to our own vets for opening they examined her said seemed ok and wasn’t dilated has continued to lose discharge since then. Took her again yesterday morning again a different vet said seemed ok still not dilated but did an ultrasound said could see 4 good heart beats said maybe more but puppies get harder as get bigger on her scan at 5 weeks 7 were seen. She has been nesting and milk is present she has gone off her meat but still manages small treats. Late last night the discharge turned brown and today has a slight tinge of red is this labor going to start or do I need another trip to the vets again? She is restless and moving about often. Her temp hasn’t changed. Can still see and feel puppies moving around. Thanks

I always thought green discharge was an emergency due to placenta detaching?
- By Poppy205 [gb] Date 26.03.20 13:28 UTC
That’s what I thought but vets didn’t seem that concerned on both visits

http://www.barrettweimaraners.com/green-discharge-in-a-pregnant-bitch/

This article, one of many if you search, is how I'd view most green discharges.   We even had a puppy who was 'green' when delivered.   All was fine and once cleaned off, he was perfectly normal too.

If you can avoid needing a vet at this time (C-virus) do.   Mine will still take in emergencies, but now had an online diagnosis set up  - 15 mins in a timed slot.   I needed some eye drops yesterday, phoned in and after my vet agreeing, more was made and and left on a bench outside the building for me to pick up at a given time-slot so the only person I actually saw was my vet leaving in his van.   We waved.    And apart from what's going on at the moment, your bitch will probably be better not taken there again, if it can be avoided.

Good luck!

Thanks for that has put my mind at rest a bit. Yes due to the Coronavirus both visits have been me take her to the vets door then having to wait in the car for her. Here’s hoping she starts moving them soon x

Thanks but now at 10!! Can’t believe it saw 7 on her 5 week scan and only 4 on Wednesday scan must’ve all been hiding high. X

It might be a good idea to have your vet check her to make sure all the puppies have been delivered + the placenta just in case she has retained birthing material??

At least this would have been best practice, before the current Coronavirus situation....

Hi ended up at 11 today. Big increase from her scan. Nipped to vets to get some puppy formula to give her an helping hand with her large litter. Vet said as long as she ok eating drinking and going toilet she should be fine which she is doing all over the above. She is settled and feeding and tending to them all well x
