Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Dogs inside must be full of hair

My dog that has a skin condition is forever licking her legs.  I clear out the hair that gathers in her mouth but I am sure her insides must be jam packed as well.  She is full of saliva when she eats and she is only eating half amount of food that she used to eat.  Have you heard of this before?  Have you any idea what I should do?  There is no dog hair in her poop.

If u really think there may be a problem a visit to the vet will either reassure or discover a problem .
My guess is if the vet is concerned they will need to do scans or a  xray for a blockage.
Given she has a skin condition I would expect u are in close contact with the vet in anycase

Thank you for your reply.  The vet is not interested.   She has a thyroid condition and is taking Thyforon.   She also takes apoquelle.   We are at the vets once a month.  She has had her teeth cleaned although I did not think they needed doing.

not interested in your concerns about the hair or her skin ? he should at least reassure you that there are no problems after a discussion . If the eating doesn't improve you do need a chat at least  to discover the cause as multiple things can produce a reluctance to eat. It is possible she may develop a hair ball , not common but as in all things possible . Is she lethargic , being sick or trying to be sick.

The should at least reassure you that there are no problems after a discussion assuming you haven't had that discussion

I have been dealing with two with allergies for years now and have had referral to dermatologist. The best thing I did for them. We arnt on aquopell as other meds were considered more appropriate and with less possible side effects.

Dont forget if you dont want something done it is still your choice but you do have to have certain amount of trust in the vet as we cant always tell when something needs treating.

I would find another vet. hopefully now the teeth are done they shouldn't need touch for a few years yet. Also a clean mouth is good as preventative to all sorts of conditions not just in the mouth either

If you arnt happy and feel dismissed or are getting treatment you arnt happy about , ie dental   I would find another vet.

Until you get to the bottom of it and if you are worried about 'furballs' you could give your dog some tinned fish in oil. Mine have a tin of sardines in sunflower oil once a month. If there is an issue with retaining fur (unlikely) then this will sort it and if there is no retained fur, then it won't do her any harm to eat the oily fish.
