Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / bitch miscarry at 7 weeks but still pregnant! (locked)

hi, has anyone had a bitch abort some of the litter at 7 weeks and go on to deliver the rest of the litter at full term? my girl gave birth to 4 pups last week and one was deformed so rung vets and they said if she was ok no need to go in. the 3 normal pups we ok but to week to survive and had no fur. at the weekend my son said he felt kicking and turns out she still has two more in side. phoned vets again in a panic and they said it’s rare but she can go on to have these pups at full term! will she go into labour again on her own? she’s much happier and eating so much better since she aborted those pups, any advice appreciated :)

Personally I'd get her in for a C.Section at full term.   At least if that's done, you'll know she's been 'cleared out'.    So the puppies she delivered were premature and didn't survive?

I had one of mine who seemed to be pregnant at 5 weeks, but didn't get significantly bigger.  She probably reabsorbed some although when we had to go for a C.Section to get ONE large puppy out (typical but at least it was a bitch) there was no sign that she could have had more at one point.   We have never had a miscarriage like you've had to exerience.

Be guided by your vet with this - provided you know and trust him!

i have been in contact with vet and she said i could take her in for a scan to see if they was still alive but i can feel two puppys in there both alive and kicking well! she said the reason she gave birth early to the other 4 was because one was abnormal and had died but the 3 normal ones was in the same uterus so she expelled them too. the looked to be about 7 weeks as they had claws but no fur and they struggled to breathe as was to premature, so none of them survived :(  as pups are moving a lot and poppy seems well il wait till the 9 week mark and see what happens if not il be going straight to vets!

I had this happen with a cat although the lost kitten was at 6 weeks. 3 normal kittens born naturally at full term, one of which turned out to be the best show cat I have had.
