Just wondering what you guys think. My girl had her temperature drop last night and was restless through the night, digging etc and sleeping. Most of today the same. This evening since about 6pm she has been very restless, panting and rolling around so very imcomfortable and has been losing clear fluid. I check all the time and it is not discoloured at all. No pushing and is now sleeping again. How long should I leave her for? Must admit mine usually get on with the pushing after losing some fluid but she is not. She is a first time mum and pretty big so cannot lick herself and this is why I have seen the fluid I guess. Any thoughts would be welcome.

There is nothing you can do really other than be there (cancel all your appointments), have her sleeping in the whelping box, with you in the room too so you know pretty much when contractions start.   For me, it's when they have strong contractions, getting nowhere after about one hour, that you need to act = vet.   And that applies to each delivery.   There's no point leaving her to struggle, becoming exhausted (and risking the life of that puppy and all those yet to be born, and her) if she's going to need a C.Section.

With mine, and knowing some went into secondary inertia, I always phoned my vet to warn them I might need them, once strong contractions were seen.

Sounds as if you'll have your hands full soon!!   Perhaps you already do.............

First stage of labour can last from 6-36 hours, very occasionally 48hrs.

Update for you. My girl carried on having intermittent contractions but kept rolling onto her back. i have not had this before so was a little concerned. This went on for over 2 hours so thought it best to get her looked at to check f all was ok. I wondered if perhaps this rolling on her back suggested a mal-presentation or something.
Went to vets who examined and said she was fully dilated, then scanned and x-rayed. Scan showed pups heartbeats a tad slow but not too bad, x-ray showed large pups, 1 head presenting but another pup underneath stopping it progressing further. So we had a c-section. All went ok, babies good but were indeed big for the breed so she had cooked them well! Had no issues with her accepting the pups, I guess as she had been in labour and all is good so far.
