I have a 5 year old std dachshund bitch, unspayed, never used for breeding, rehomed to myself at 3 yrs from very well respected exhibitior and hound judge.
She is a rather aloof girl by nature and extremely attached to me, over and above all others!
Anyway the last few days she has been behaving very strangely. Constant whining and crying and following me around. She always sleeps in HER bed next to mine but has taken to sleeping under covers in close this week. Slight increase in drinking water, stools firm and eating happily.
She has been endlessly and furiously digging her bed during the day which she never does.
She was last in season October past.
Vets booked for Friday but wondered if anyone had experienced any behavioural changes in their bitch like this... Clingy, crying, whining, digging bed, increased thirst. She had a bout of pancreatitis last year but has been sorted with diet which I am very strict with!
Sorry for the long winded post

Possible Pyo - I wouldn't leave her until Friday

Unless you've seen signs of a false pregnancy before with her, I'd definitely go with the possibility this is a Pyo. especially if she has increased thirst.  I'd not leave this either.  There are two kinds, closed where you'll see no discharge and open when you do.   Obviously the closed is more worrying because this infection can be going on and you won't necessarily know other than her overall behaviour.  Against this being what's going on is the fact she's eating well, so far!

I'm surprised that her breeder didn't have her spayed before rehoming her to be honest.   And regardless of what's going on with her now, I urge you to get this booked sooner rather than later.   There is an ever present risk of a Pyometra in the unspayed bitch.

Many thanks I will phone the surgery and get her seen asap. Pyo was my first thought but as you say her appetiteade me doubt. Although she is a greedy dog tbf.
No false pregnancies ever.
Re her not being spayed I know what you mean. He has put a lot of faith in new owners of his ex show dogs. If it were me I would never rest easy always wondering if every was as good as their word
Thanks again I will update once I see the vet
