Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Challenge Certificates on newly added breeds

Hi everyone,

I am pretty new to showing (coming up to a year). I have Jack Russell Terriers which I'm sure you know were only added to the KC breed register in 2016. CCs are not on offer to them yet but I was just wondering as a newbie what criteria a breed has to meet in order for CCs to be awarded and also roughly how much time passes between becoming a registered breed and being able to achieve CCs?

Thankyou! xx

Can only answer for my own breed but in our case it went on registration numbers -which was utter madness as they do in no way whatsoever reflect the number of dogs shown. The first dog arrived in the UK in 1972, the first litter was registered in 1974, and we gained CCs in 2006.

Wow! So quite a wait then! There's quite a big entrance of Jacks at the champ shows at the moment but not sure on registration numbers (It was the largest terrier entry at LKA I think behind the borders this year). Is there somewhere that you can find out how many are registered?

You seem to have a decent number being registered, this is for 2018 and part of 2019:https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/media/128942/quarterly-breed-stats-terriers.pdf

Ooh that's really interesting thank you. There's a lot of Border terriers registered on a yearly basis aren't there!!
