How an 18,000-year-old puppy could change everything we know about dogs.

Dogor was two months old when he died and has been well preserved in the Siberian ice.

I saw this news elsewhere.   I don't think (may be wrong!) those teeth look like those of an 8 week old puppy (shown in the article I read about this).    I'd suggest that's a puppy wolf - I've never had occasion to open the mouth of a wolf however.

I'm not sure whether this will load, but if it does, scroll down re the teeth.   I see somebody is querying whether this might not be 'canine' but some oversized rodent?

I'm guessing that you've never seen The Princess Bride

Maybe a canine or a wolf, but those are definitely not rodent teeth.

Ok, seriously.  The tweet about rodents is a joke!  It's a reference to The Rodents of Unusual Size (ROUSs) in The Princess Bride.  It's not serious!

As for species... that's the whole question, isn't it?  Because of the age of it, it could be one of three: early modern dog, early modern wolf, or extinct ancestral ice age wolf.  Personally I think it's most likely to be the latter, because the most recent DNA evidence I'm aware of (although happy to be corrected) suggests that modern wolves and dogs diverged from the ancestral species around 15,000 years ago.

I don't even know what the Princess Bride is. A film I am guessing. You will all lose touch when you reach my age.

You're not alone CaroleC. I don't know what the Princess Bride is either.

You're missing out!  It's a sort of fairy-tale-adventure with swordfights and true love and all that stuff from 1987, along the lines of Robin Hood and the like.  But a bit of a pee-take version, very silly.  Absolutely fantastic cult classic.

Our Dogs is the most excitement I can take these days.

Anyone can enjoy Princess Bride. Such good lines in it.
Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die

I've heard of it but never got round to seeing it. I did love 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights' though so perhaps I should make an effort to watch it!

If you loved Men In Tights, you'll definitely love Princess Bride!  Same lead actor, too.
