It was announced that Sainsbury’s are not selling fireworks. Great, I wish all the shops would do the same. I think we should all support Sainsbury’s in their decision by doing all our weekly shop in their shops.

It's a very welcome move but as Sainsbury's are 'in trouble', they may not be around much longer to actually sell fireworks anyway. It'll be interesting to see which supermarket takes-up-the-slack though and then we can boycott them

Totally agree, there was some numpty on local radio this morning arguing against and said 'didn't you have fireworks as a kid', presenter pointed out back then bangers went pop or bang, now 'bangers' shake the ground and rattle windows.
Sell them to organised - and advertised - displays ONLY not to Joe Public for their tiny garden for whenever they decide to let them off.
Local display here - about 200yds away - I used to put 3 dogs and a flask of coffee in car and go out of the village, watch from a distance and home when it finished. Now Zuma is an only and not bothered so just stay home with TV or radio on.
As an owner of a dog who is absolutely petrified by fireworks and other loud noises, I welcome it and hope that others follow.
I would like to see fireworks licensed and at large displays only.
Last night she was out for a walk and 2 fireworks went off so had to cut her walk short, she will now start to get anxious as soon as it starts to go dark and I shut the curtains.
Unfortunately it's not just one night in November, it starts now and goes through until New Year's Eve.

Asda have gone for low noise fireworks Unfortunately one of presenters on watchdog this mornjng when referring to low noise fireworks made the flippant comment of. But isn't the noise the best bit ? Then laught . Just after gloria hunniford had said many people have pets who dont like.the bangs.
I wish they would think before opeing mouth

Totally agree .licensed and displays only .so not available to the general public

I strongly suspect that there isn't much profit in selling supermarket fireworks is more of a reason not to sell them.
As for changing to shop there, ok if you are nearish to a store, but I prefer to suport my local shops(that have never sold fireworks)
Yes I'm dreading Nov 5. The town display is right behind our house. Our last dog wasnt bothered much but Bailey is quite sensitive so I dont know how he'll react. Why cant we have silent fireworks?
So, tonight the fireworks have been so bad that my dog has chucked her tea back up. God knows how bad it will be on Tuesday :(
It reminded me of my neighbours granny when I was a child. On firework night, or when it was thundering, she would hide under the stairs as it reminded her of the bombing in the war.
I wonder how our service personnel and victims of bombings cope.

As I said above our local display (all big noisy display ones for about 30 minutes) is about 200 yds from me - field is behind the houses oposite.
Zuma is not over bothered but tonight took it to a new level.
Fireworks started, He went to the door and started barking, Put a lead on him and opened the door, he stood for about 1 minute to see one go up and explode, turned back in, went to the fridge and asked for a carrot, took it in his crate and lay down with a big Hhuuufff and ate the carrot and went to sleep !!!

They don't exist, for one thing

Seriously though, just those would be so much better. While they aren't actually silent they are MUCH quieter, easy enough to cover with the telly, from the footage I've seen. It would make such a difference.

I’m really thankful that River isn’t bothered at all by fireworks, but previous lab Summer always had a miserable few weeks this time of year.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to enjoy them myself again because they just remind me of scared dog.
And I wish the flipping things were banned except for the 5th itself and maybe the two weekends surrounding it, and New Years Eve. At least then we’d know exactly when to expect them and can prepare better.
No let up, fireworks last night and tonight.
Where on earth do they get the money to burn :(

It is totally completely stupid, I've seen reports in the past week of a horse that paniced, bolted and died, another that bolted, tried to jump a fence and got impaled on a post and today someone thought it was 'fun' to set off a big 'box' firework in a gate to a field of cows - 3 stuck in ditch and another dead. That is without all the 'dog ran off/escaped' posts never mind the ones having nervous breakdowns at home !!!
Fireworks until after midnight here. It was raining hard so there can't have been much pleasure in it at all. One local village holds its annual display this weekend -Remembrance Weekend. Where's the respect for the solemnity of this occasion ?

I think it ended when the BBC on the news this morning, said the 'Royal Family attended a CONCERT yesterday evening in London'. A CONCERT? I can't think what the members of the Armed Services or the families of soldiers lost in combat would have thought about that!! It was the annual Festival of Remembrance fgs. And for once, we watched it through this year - something we don't always do I confess. And it was worth watching aparty the rendition of a Bridge over Troubled Water, which was murdered!
We have had fireworks every night for over a week. It is OK for us, my dogs only react if the loudest bangs are very close to us, but my neighbours JRT's have been frantic every night. The length, volume, and the number of occasions, is increasing every year, and it has now become essential that there are some proper controls in place.

It was dreadful & the singer got the words wrong in one part.
Not sure why Johnson's mistress was there, he looked a mess too, you wouldn't think he is the political "leader".
The young man who sang & played the piano was moving though
Bizarre American dancers too !
I did love the Chelsea pensioners singers, very very emotional
Posting from Eastbourne . Fireworks now for over an hour. Fortunately the dogs with me here are not too bothered but the principle remains- why do these idiots think it appropriate to have this night after night over such a long period of time ? I can hear other dogs barking in distress. Yet many of the perpetrators, as i know too well, are quick to complain about dogs barking ! Pathetic .
> The young man who sang & played the piano was moving though<br />
He was James Blunt - a former Army Officer. And it was moving!! I have always admired his work.
Ditto with the Chelsea Pensioners (moving). I got the American dancers - all in recognition of the American's involvement in WW2 but it was a touch 'Strictly'.
ps Doesn't Boris usually look a mess .... as for his companion - people do tend to bring their sig. other to such events?

His mistress is supposed to have smartened him up & is it usual to bring your mistress whilst you are still married, he is after all supposed to be the political leader of the country & should be setting high standards of behaviour. The same as Charles taking Camilla whilst he was still married to Princess Diana ?

Hardly the same. And Charles' marriage to Diana was over a significant time before he was seen in public with Camilla. As if we need to get into all that on this place?

You miss my point. Johnson is flaunting his mistress in public- that is what is wrong for the political leader to do here in the UK. He should have been there alone or with one of his cronies.
I wonder what people would have thought
if Camilla had appeared whilst she was still married to her husband & Charles' wife was still alive, their affair was ongoing throughout Charles' first marriage.
It is showing a lack of respect on Johnsons' behalf.
