What spot on treatments do you use for maintaining flea control?
Having had a recent outbreak, it's clear that Frontline no longer has an effect on my dog, so I need to try something else.
Thanks.
I don't recommend spot-ons. They are toxic for all aquatic life and organisms, whenever the dog swims and when they get into the environment. They also expose all people in the house, to the product.
Instead, if you have a problem, use Capstar to kill all adult fleas immediately and then use Program monthly to break the flea lifecycle for 6 months. These are both oral products, been around a long time with great safety records, and don't expose everyone in the house to the pesticides...
Thanks, yes, I'm using that regime at the moment. Just wondered if there were any others that folks recommended as Frontline seems to have stopped working on him!
The Scalibor collars are very effective against ticks and fleas and are better than spot ons because they can be removed before the dog swims and the product doesn't get quite everywhere in the same way spot-ons do (since it's not liquid). If the dog has a reaction, the collar can also be removed - unlike a spot on product.

Scalibor collars do not protect against fleas. Have used them many times to protect against sand flies on the continent and you need to use a flea product as well. My dog has always had a nasty sore from them so I would only use if I had to.
