Topic Dog Boards / Health / Yearly check up ?
- By St.Domingo Date 06.10.19 17:08 UTC
My dog doesn't have annual vaccinations so doesn't go to the vet unless there's a problem.
She is a 7 year old toy breed, and I just wondered if she should have a regular check up - I don't want to be a bad owner !!
If so, how often and what should I ask to be done ?
TIA

I only do because my insurance requires it to cover oral health ( pet plan )  mines 9 .
It's the same for.the cats
I dont do annual.vaccinations either so unless I have a worry she wouldn't see the vet

My vet does the 3 yearly booster protocol, but offers a free health check on the other 2 years. As my two are now in double digits they no longer have any boosters at all, so I booked them in for senior dog health-checks last month. It was a general exam covering heart and lungs, eyes, ears, teeth, a weight check and a couple of general health Q & A's. (I do their routine urine tests at home). I can't be certain whether I paid for this, as I was collecting some tablets at the same time, but I certainly wasn't charged a full consult fee for the check-ups.

Mine are/were (because I drop boosters after around age 7) on the three yearly booster schedule, other than for Lepto.  Would that mine went for a year without needing to see a vet (my Whippet was more likely not to need to see them until she started having to have a corn, now two, hulled)!!   My Basset - more likely a monthly check-up

Mine aren't vaccinated either (after the 1 year booster) but I take them for an annual health check - if they haven't seen the vet through the year.
They get an all over examination and I ask for bloods to be taken so I have a record of their blood results whilst they are healthy and can see if there is anything changing.
I also do regular wormcount tests (independent of vets) but send them results for their records

Thanks for your replies.
Mine needs her teeth cleaning unfortunately, so I'll use those visits for a general eye/heart etc check.
