Hi
Just wondering if anyone has a bitch with long seasons. My girl was mated on day 16 and 18.....no bloods done, just on both her and stud dogs say so. She is on day 35 from the start of her season and still bleeding, not heavy but is very swollen. I'm hoping she will dry up in a couple of days. Anyone have any experience with long seasons and connect them to late ovulation? Iv never had a girl bleed for so long and be so swollen. My others are normally around 24 days. Thanks

Most of mine were the opposite after being mated - their show was very minor to a normal end of the season. But their vulva would be rather bigger. If you have a discharge, I think I'd be having her checked by your vet - thinking Pyometra?
I have a bitch who's always had long seasons. Her first litter she ovulated on day 18, 4 pups resulted. Following that her seasons got even longer with an ovulation at day 28 and the following year day 31, neither of those matings resulted in a pregnancy though.
Thanks for your replies. She has stopped bleeding now but I think it's safe to say she was mated too early and probably ovulated late.
Just wanted to update incase this would help anyone. My girl isn't pregnant and no signs of pyo from scan. She had stopped bleeding for a few days around 20 days from first blood but then started again and around 35 days was really swollen. At around 40 days stopped bleeding and back to normal. So looks like she was ready around 35 days and had I taken her back for another mate this may have been successful. I will progesterone next time.
I know this post is a few months old but in case anyone else looks wondering about season lengths. One of my girls, 3 litters, had long seasons always mating between days 26 and 31. She was very special and didn't bother reading any of the books
