Our new rescue sheltie has settled in well. We think she is about 7 or 8. Grace seems healthy, eats and sleep well. However like a lot of people these days in our house there are lots of tiled (hard) floors and downstairs the sitting room is newly decorated and carpeted. We have noticed that if we forget to shut the door to that room and if Grace has been in there that there will be small wet stains on the carpet (wee). Don't notice anything on the hard floors though.
When I take her out I do notice she does wee frequently (small amounts). Poo is all quite normal and has never done that indoors. Wondering if she could have a urine infection or maybe just likes the feel of weeing on the carpet!! Anyone come across this sort of thing? It is early days for Grace. we have only had her about six weeks. She has been to the vet for a general check up just after we had her and then for a bit of arthritis and I don't want to fuss her too much unnecessarilyx

She could have a UTI, might be worth getting a pot from them and give in a sample to be checked

I agree with suejaw. She needs to be tested for a UTI, so you need to get that wee sample before she gets any worse.

Definitely test for the UTI, but if that's clear it could just be that she likes peeing on carpet because it doesn't splash and you need to go back to basics with house training?
I have a collie pup who appears house trained on hard surfaces but he can't resist peeing on the sofa or a nice soft dog bed!
Is your Sheltie spayed? If so, spay incontinence is another possibility, - but you must always start off with a urine test.
I think the sneaky piddlers favour carpet because there is a greater chance of it going unnoticed!
Haha - I love "sneaky piddlers"!! I do agree about carpets though. Our dog Hannah who I rescued from Crete as a puppy and is nearly 12 now, when she thinks she can get away with it, does what we call a "bum rub" on the carpet, grrrr.
As for Grace I managed to get a sample of wee over the weekend and it has been sent off for testing, so I will await the resultsx
My sheltie always pees on VET BED. I have had her from a puppy and she was very slow to house train
Hi
Grace my rescued sheltie had been weeing a lot so I got a wee sample and the vet sent it off for analysis. The result was no infection but some protein found in the sample. The vet suggested scans and goodness what else and came up with a frightening list of possibilities. This (young) vet treated my last sheltie for kidney failure last year and she subsequbently and sadly died at only 9. I was devastated and so over a year on through Facebook I found Grace through the Many Tears rescue website (massive rescue organisation in Wales.
Grace's constant weeing seems seems to have stopped, she is eating well and has put on 2kg l (she was very thin) loves walks and is bright and lively. So I don't feel like putting her through lots of tests after what she has been through when she is clearly blossoming. So the vet and I have agreed to monitor her for a month or so and see how she goes. My last sheltie Isla when she was diagnosed with kidney failure went off her food and lost a lot of weight.
Has anyone else encountered protein in urine?
