I am looking for advice
My girl is healthy 4 year old I mated her twice 48 hours apart I took her to be scanned on day 29 and 36 of pregnancy both showing a singleton.   She has a huge appetite I have been advised by the scanner to cut back her food in later pregnancy to prevent puppies growth.   Are scans always correct and should I reduce her food
Thanks in advance

For a single puppy I wouldn't increase her food at all; just reduce the carbohydrate and increase the protein to compensate. The last thing you want is for her to get fat; it's unlikely to be an easy whelping anyway, and a fat bitch has a worse time.

Thankyou.  I will definitely make sure no cards and plenty of protein

Regardless of the number of puppies (and they will always take all they need, both pre birth, and afterwards) I have usually backed off the 'bulk' in the latter stages of pregnancy - and for sure, with a good-sized litter, there isn't enough space to be eating a lot of food at each meal.  Again puppies take what they need so I don't go with holding back on what mum eats as meaning the puppy(ies) won't be as big!!  Mum won't get fat, is all.

For me, with a singleton puppy, it's really more about not leaving it too long after the due date without getting it out.  All too often a singleton (or even just a couple) puppy sits, growing bigger by the day and making a C.Section more likely to be needed.

Do you think a little more exercise than a multiple pregnancy may help in a early delivery.  I did an estimated delivery for a The first Saturday in October I will take her to the vet 3 times before that for check up.   I will ask for advice off the vet the vet said all she can do on the last appointment is check the puppy is in place and has a heart beat    I was thinking of booking a planned c section for the Monday after her due date if she hasn’t whelped naturally.  I am also now concerned about her milk production too
