This is my first post and my first litter please be kind. I have a bitch who is now day 61 post mate, she is a maiden dam expecting a singleton, she did lots of digging day 59 then yesterday day 60 didn’t eat much & started panting on and off from midday for hours, looked convincingly like stage 1 with bouts of sleep in between, I stayed up all night with her, but has now settled and isn’t showing signs or destress or anything, no signs of pushing has just been for a wee & opened her bowels, now has had clear fluid which she has cleaned herself and seem settled again could it have been a practice getting her ready or should I contact the vet. Thanks in advance.

This is typical for first stage.  It will be stop and start until it really gets going.  Keep taking her for walks around the garden.

Absolutely gutted, the pup was too big and was breech and sadly wasn’t breathing tried 30mins in vain but the puppy has not survived
