Hi, my puppies are 6 weeks old, healthy and doing well, as is their Mum. Does anyone give stronghold flea treatment to the pupps as a preventative measure before sending to their new homes? First time breeder and unsure. I have treated their Mum with stronghold and give it every month, the cat also has it every month so I don't think they could pick up any fleas but they play outside in the garden. I would need to get a prescription from the vets. Any advice would be gratefully received, thank you.

No. I do not treat any of my dogs for fleas and I only would do if they had them. In my mind it is like routinely putting head lice treatment on myself and my family despite not having head lice.  I see no point in putting chemicals on a puppy when they are not needed.

Have you seen fleas/signs of fleas on your dogs, cats or puppies ? If no why apply chemicals to them ? Puppies have very underdeveloped immune systems at 6 weeks of age & using any strong chemical like a flea treatment could(& does)cause serious problems

Please do not apply pesticides to your dog or puppies unless there are actually fleas there to kill, which you've seen yourself!

thank you for your replies, there are no signs of fleas so I will not treat.

Exactly this.  Just would not use anything not needed.

There was a panic overhead lice treatment (which has Pyrethrins, considered a pesticide acceptabl;e to organic growers) being potentailly harmful, and we use it so rarely on ourselves, to then bombard our pets without need seems totally unacceptable.
