Boris Johnson he may be far from perfect (as most of us are I would imagine) my question is, do you believe he is, the best one for the job ...?

No, what's happening in America has shown us what can happen when you put a racist, sexist, homophobic bigot in charge of a country

I don't think that a dog site is the place to discuss politics or religion. I think this thread should be deleted for this reason.

As the OP is in India, perhaps they do not realise that non dog posts should be in the Foo section for posts unrelated to dogs

I'm a bit surprised to find this man has 'invaded this space' too!! I watched a bit of what went on in Parliament yesterday and quite honestly, although the man is currently fully charged and so different to May, it was more like a 3-ring circus (than usual!) than anything seriously to do with running the country. I'm prepared to give the man a chance, but am not holding my breath where he's concerned. The comparison (similarity) with the man in the White House, is worrying but I suppose time will tell. One thing I do hate is all the bad comments about May from the general public ..... much as I felt she hung on too long. She was working her socks off to get Leaving the EU done but clearly, and not surprisingly, the EU is not about to be happy the UK have voted to Leave and won't make it easy to go. If May decided to take some time out and watch the cricket yesterday - GOOD FOR HER.
But there has been a precedent. When Trump was elected we had quite a few posts on him, all as I remember expressing shock/disbelief. And when we had the referendum. It made a nice change and lively discussion ensued.
For the record -equal shock and disbelief that we have such a man as Johnson in high office in our country. We thought it couldn't happen here !

I find it worrying that his environment secretary is pro fracking. Hope that’s not a sign of things to come in other areas!
'If May decided to take some time out and watch the cricket yesterday -GOOD FOR HER'
Alas there would not have been much comfort there for her. England did not do well. And they've just been bowled out on first ball of the day.
Not just pro -fracking but also pro industrial/factory farming ,with all the poor welfare standards that go with that.

Er England bowled out Ireland for 38 in Ireland's 2nd innings, winning by 143 runs
I know, I was commenting on the previous day's play.
Fantastic turnaround yesterday.
My GR Flintoff was born during the 2005 Ashes . He'll be watching this year's event from the sofa. He's amazing for 14 . Still up for long forest forest walks and games in the park.

No, i can see whats happening in the US with the rise of hate crimes happening here..
If there is a General Election, I won't know who to vote for. Leaving the EU is important but so are other policies, and the party I prefer has opposite views to me over Brexit.
Mind you, I do live in Doncaster and Labour would gain all of our seats, even if the party put up donkeys for canditates!!

I just wish, the whole world would live in peace (no racism etc etc) where everyone just showed
'Love & Kindness' to everyone else.
I'm prepared to give the man a chance, but am not holding my breath where he's concerned. One good thing he's doing already in all fairness though, he wants 20,000 extra police officers on our streets to help get violent crime down, sounds good to me.

They will replace the 20,000 plus officers lost since this government has been in power. Not much of an improvement really
"Police officer numbers in England and Wales. The number of police officers in England and Wales has fallen by over 20,000 between March 2010 and March 2018. There were over 122,000 police officers in March this year.(2018)"

Indeed. There weren't enough in the first place so all he's doing is reversing that particular loss. That in itself is good, but it's not enough in the long run.

Boris has certainly made politics very entertaining, joking aside,

he does appear passionate about the job.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5zfxkqST_MI have a feeling he may turn out to be a good Prime Minister in the long run.

> he does appear passionate about the job.
I hope so, it's the job he's coveted & craved.

Sadly like 99.99% of Tories, he will look after his allies & acolytes. Backed by the money"men"(& women)they have scant regard for those whose work supplies their money.
Hope you all have private health insurance as you will need it when the NHS is sold off to the USA. I just hope the Tory MP who is threatening to jump ship does so & we go to a General Election
'I have a feeling he may turn out to be a good Prime Minister in the long run. '
Let's hope there is no long run.
And as regards entertaining us, that is not what politicians should be doing. In Boris 's case it is an artifice. He's no fool. His antics serve to distract the electorate from the fact that he has no policies , none that would serve the majority anyway, and is a greedy, selfish, lazy product of a system that serves the few at the expense of the many.

He's no fool, nor does he need to heed what the general population think or need. So many rich politicians are in politics for self glory & the power. This new right wing government is not what was elected at the last election, he has a home secretary who want to bring back capital punishment as her ultimate deterrent, despite it proved not to be the truth( highest murder figures are in countries with the death penalty)for example, others in his cabinet have such bad track records they shouldn't be in charge of anything.
He is a proven liar(remember the Red Bus, which he now denies).
I wonder if his mistress has been snuck in the back way to No 10, just as he was snuck out the back way after meeting the SNP to avoid the protesters.
He failed so many times in London, when he was mayor wasting tens of millions of public money, that should have been spent on the poorer areas.
He claimed to have made the Olympics a success for London, forgetting it was his predecessor's organisation that brought them to the UK & that had everything in motion when he took office. He messed up the Olympic heritage as well.
I really cannot stand the man, a very typical right wing rich politician, a British equivalent of Trump.

Boris Johnson's
£1.8 billion cash boost for the
NHS In all fairness though, above is another step in the right direction, if he continue's to take steps like this then he will do very well.

Short memories
2002 Labour increased NHS budget by £20,000,000,000
In 2011 Tories CUT NHS budget by £20,000,000,000
So increasing funding by £1,800,000,000 doesn't even replace the 2011 cuts. Peanuts ! & you think this is good ?????
Don't forget some of the "increase"will go to the private section so beloved of the right wing & also prepare the NHS for full privatisation

I sincerely hope that no government would ever plan full privatisation of our wonderful NHS.
Also, someone mentioned earlier that Boris is like Trump, but as they say 'Boris is just Boris' (he appears to be joking most of the time).
Barack Obama was a good president (very peaceful gentleman) I just wish Trump was like Obama in this respect (kind to everyone).

I miss Obama too.. if only we could have leaders like him and have to say im impressed with Trudeau, he should be a leading example

Sadly the Tories & their leaders have opposed the NHS from it's conception, lead from the front by Winston Churchill in the post war years. They have never funded the NHS fully so it is always paying catch up.
I always remember an American ER consultant, who was trying to virtually rebuild a pacemaker recovered from a dead patient during a documentry on American emergency medicine, looking into the camera, after the patient he was treating died before the pacemaker could be used, & said " Don't let them privatise your NHS, this man would have lived if he could have afforded insurance or if he had lived in the UK. He didn't earn enough to have insurance & we don't have enough funding to provide pacemakers for free" The ER he worked in was in a downtown charity run hospital where people without private means are treated.
Bonker's mate Trump, is frantically trying to destroy "Obama care" whilst trying to take over our NHS.

...... while doing his utmost to pick up a Peace Prize as Obama did (actually I never understood why as that happened so early in his administration)! His whole reason in life seems to be to destroy all that Obama did achieve, when he managed to get his plans through Congress.

Totally.. im going to lay it down simply, Trump is a racist and it makes his blood boil that Obama was so popular and wants to rid everything he achieved..
It will also be bonkers if DT gets a Nobel peace prize, would make a whole mockery of what it means

Surely not !!!

I know everyone has their own views on this, but I just can't see how any politician can get a good deal for Britain unless they do exactly what Boris is doing, just my honest opinion guys.

Giving tax cuts to the wealthy ???
I think a lot of people would be surprised at how much of the NHS is already privatised.
The health visitors and school nurses in many areas are run by Virgin Care.
The vaccinations in schools are done by private companies in many areas.
My local hospital is a Foundation Trust. The whole trust is a private company but people think it's an NHS hospital.

I believe he is wanting to a rescue a dog which will get along with the resident cat at number 10

No, but his mistress is keen to get a rescue dog for No 10 with him.

I hope she doesn't do this, not only because of the resident cat, but because, I'd suggest, their busy lives with people coming and going too, a dog doesn't seem to be a good fit for No.10
She needs to wait until Boris is out of there - which may not be so long!!!

It's only vote catching. He's not had any interest until now apart from the odd photoshoot with a dog. His mate Trump is the only president not to have a dog

I completely agree with Jean. Not only am I surprised this has continued, I think many of the remarks (whether you like it or not) about our current Prime Minister are insulting and unnecessary in reasoned debate. It appears we have some on here with a very poor view of the Conservative party. I for one believe Mr Johnson is, like Mrs May but using his own strong personality, doing his very best for our country. If political debates are to be the norm on here, it might be better balanced if we had a Down Vote button too!
i'm all for 'reasoned debate' and have not found any of the comments here 'insulting ' or 'unnecessary' . They do , however, reflect the anguish we feel at this incompetent and self s possible break up serving government, driving us into something nobody voted for in 2016, the wrecking of our economy, the union of the United Kingdom and the 'gloves off' bigotry and racism that pervades the media and every level of society. Boris Johnson has been foisted on us, an unelected and unworthy Prime Minister.
Besides, all of this makes a welcome change from endless debate on 'What breed', 'where can I find such and such a puppy ' and ' When are the puppies coming'
Taking cover from imminent flak under makeshift shelter of stockpiled dog food
Whoops! Just seen my typo-I meant to write 'self serving government'.....' and possible break up of the union ' but got text in a muddle. That'll teach me to edit before I post
Back to the shelter !

Just my personal thoughts ...................
Switzerland has (I think) 6 EU countries around it but does not have a 'hard' border with any of them. Why do we need one with Ireland?
France & Germany are the main objectors to UK leaving .......... France & Germany are the other 2 'net contributers' to the EU budget - when we leave they will have to make up the shortfall.
Go into any supermarket and check the amount of French wine, fruit, deli cheese etc on the shelves and count the number of French/German cars in the car park.........
I really can't THINK why they want us to stay !!!
