Breeding / 17 day old dog can’t seem too poop and no longer constipate?
Hello everyone! Was hoping you could help or possibly give me some advice? I have a 17 day old puppy he can’t seem to poop. At first he was constipated so the vet said to give him a enigma that cleared a large bit but now he still seems not too be able too pass it even when it’s soft? He pushes i am stimulating him ect but no luck ? . He was poop fine until he went back on the nipples. As I was bottle feeding for a few days as the mum was sore from c section? He also suffers from colic with I am giving him a tiny bit of gripe water . He is gaining weight rapidly well awake . Very vocal. And eats Well . If you have any ideas or have dealt with this before could you let me know. Because I am starting too worrie and probably irratate my vets thanks in advance

Is he being weaned at the moment? What are you feeding the pups
No not yet . He’s still on mum he was a singleton pup . I don’t normally ween until 4 weeks but was wondering if would be better to start a bit earlier in this case ? See if it would help? What would you recommend?

Are you absolutely sure that Mum isn't just eating it as it comes out? Is she cleaning him?

My thoughts too, that Mum is cleaning and stimulating him, so that he doesn't need to go when you try.
It would be unusual for him to be constipated on Mum's milk, (assuming she is drinking plenty) but certainly as you found, on formula.
With just one pup to look after, you can be sure that mum is eating it...she's not going to miss any...
Yes I’m sure she’s not eating it because she’s not in the whelping pen with him because she kept squashing him so he gets taken out then put back when he gets Fed and cleaned ect ?
She does clean him but not really the bum she licks up the urine and that but give the bum one or 3? Quick licks then gives up .
Um, I'd really suggest you leave him with her in the whelping box. Separating mum and pup is not a good idea.
There is nothing you can provide which replaces a responsive, living, breathing, mother - and if you want to raise a well-adapted puppy, putting him with her and supervising closely to prevent squashing, is what you should do. Especially considering he's a singleton and has no siblings.
I have been breeding for 5 years now I understand that but she lost interest in him we just about got her too feed at first she was trying to eat him first 4-5 days . I understand the importance it means for a puppy too have his mum close by but sometimes this is not possible if she rejects him at least she will feed him out of the whelping box and give him a clean then walk off . No more emotions so I have been doing the rest sinces day 1 . He is handled a lot so he don’t get Lonely and learns the way of life . He has teddy’s in his pen with heat pad and blankets and I stay with 24/7 have not left him alone . I wake in the night to get him too feed and clean and too check him .
<*UPDATE *>
Today he went a toilet a ( poop) by himself! I think feeding his mum Porridge and eggs works! Or it was a considers ? Hopefully it carry’s on ? He’s opened his eyes and can nearly walk looks lik a real bulldog now but tiny it’s amazing! He’s going to be such a heartbreaker ❤️
If she's rejecting him, it's usually due to calcium levels - any sort of weird or non-maternal behaviour in a bitch should be assumed to be lack of calcium at first and calcium dosages increased hugely.
