I sold a pup last week and the new owner called me the morning after and said she hadn't settled so was bringing her back, I knew they weren't right for her after they said that 16 hrs after collecting her!! So I said bring her back, and I will give you £850 back which is what they paid
I was peed off to start with so I gave him the cash back and took my puppy back.
He left then called me 20 mins later and said I had underpaid him by £100!!!!
Not a chance I ever did I just wanted my pup back from that idiot!

Anyway I've had calls and texts and even Facebook messages from him and his family threatening to come here for the money and I swear he got his full money back!!

What do I do?

Oooh nasty!   Yes, I think he should have checked before leaving, much as it could be said to have been difficult to stand there and count out the money.  Especially as they may still have been upset at having to return the puppy - they could /should still have counted it when they were back in their car, before leaving?

I don't know how you can deal with this because it's their word against your's.  I suppose you can but say you are certain you gave them back the right amount of cash (did you have them sign a receipt?) and if they continue to harass you, involve the police?

I hope the puppy is ok and at least you got her back.

Add -   If these people are putting stuff on places like Facebook - there are libel laws!!  If that continues, I'd be finding a good lawyer.

I think the law is on your side as he should have checked and verified the money before leaving. 

By the way, it is best practice to count out the money to them and also to say 'do you want to count it?' - sometimes people are embarrassed to count it, but at least you've asked and it's on them if this happens.  You should also provide a receipt for how much you took.

Sounds like a whole lot of effort for just £100!   How far from you do they live and would anybody bother to do all that, for that comparatively small amount.

As I said, it could be they didn't want to count it out in front of you, but they should have, once out in the car, at least.   And actually I might have counted the money out before having them sign a receipt, so all sides are satisfied.

Well, if they do it repeatedly to lots of different breeders over and over, they are just keeping a pup for a night for £100 - so not really that much effort if they didn't travel far.  In fact, sounds like quite a good money-making scam

People do far more (ie steal etc) for far less money.

He stayed in his car with his wife for a good 5 mins before leaving so plenty of time to check the cash! Then called me after he left and said I was £100 short!!! Not a chance but they are still calling me every day saying they will come to my house for the money and now saying they will tarnish my name on social media!! I have never ever short changed anybody!

That amounts to a threat, maybe send a solicitor's letter, or else speak to the police. Good luck

I would tell them that between you you are clearly unable to resolve this and so you are going to get the police involved particularly because of the defamation of character that you are now experiencing.  That will be enough to put a stop to it and if not be prepared to take all the evidence to the police for their advice.

So this is now time to involve the police and probably to find a no fee solicitor.  How nasty!!   It certainly is now a threat.

Totally agree! This is harassment coupled with threats and needs to be reported to the police ASAP.

I agree, definitely report it to the police so there is a record of this and so your side of things has weight.  Even if the police just log it, it will help if things get legal in future. 

You could also call the Citizens Advice Bureau, who will give you some free legal advice about your rights etc - google them.
