Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Late season, wait or vet check?
- By Dude Dog [gb] Date 20.05.19 22:12 UTC
Short history, 3 years old bitch had 2 normal seasons, once a year in early April. Now because I want to mate her she's 6 weeks overdue! Over a year since last in. My other 2 girls have been in and out and they haven't triggered her. Only tiny bit of clear discharge no sign of colour or swelling. Experienced male at home shown no interest at all. Do I just keep waiting or start investigating why she's late?

How long would you leave it before vet check? If vets, should I be seeking a specialist? (im Gloucester area) Anything else I can do at home to encourage it?

They seem to know what you're planning!!  I have had girls really late when I plan to mate.  I doubt a vet would do anything but I believe you can get a herbal remedy to help bring them in

A vet isn't going to be able to help you.  Two heat cycles doesn't give you enough to formulate an average at all.  So, whilst it sucks - that's just how it is and all you can do is wait.

By the way, this is totally typical and I swear they plan it

Ditto, had bitches two months late before now, always when a mating planned, and sometimes month early too.

If it makes you feel better to have your vet check her, do so.   But he'll probably only say wait!!

" Two heat cycles doesn't give you enough to formulate an average at all. "   Exactly.

Enter her for a show or something you really really want to do with her, that'll bring her in!:grin:

Thanks all. Posting here made me feel a little bit better. Will continue to wait and pray ;)

Keep telling myself that as long as she's healthy and had ovulatory seasons before it will all work out in the end but argh this waiting is killing me.

I really must stop 'googling' anything that could be potentially wrong with her too.

For those who were following this or anyone else searching in years to come:

Update.

We gave 30 days of galastop and then 2 weeks clear of this she came into season. Can't say if it was a direct result of the galastop or not but must have been a factor.

Seasons April 2017, April 2018 and now 3rd one finally 30th July 2019!! 15.5months between seasons.

As above, enter her and she will come in, she's currently in the lead for top dog in the ring with 2 shows planned for next 2 weekends - that's not going to happen now!
