Hey everybody

My little girl is 8 weeks pregnant now and she was scanned at 5 weeks which confirmed she is carrying 3 puppies

Now sometime in the past week I noticed her belly isn't as big as I was expecting her to be (she's due next weekend)

A friend of mine even saw her and said she doesn't look that big considering how far on she is so I'm now really worried

I know I can take her for another scan but I am reluctant to stress her at this stage of pregnancy



I've just been and bought a stethoscope today in hope I maybe be able to hear the pups heartbeats but still unsure if that's accurate or how to do it properly

I know that dogs can reabsorb pups upto 45 days after mating
But I thought if they lost them after this it would have to be stillbirth?

Can anyone advise me a little?

I think you are just going to need to be patient and wait and see.  I don't know what breed you have, but 3 puppies is not very many for a medium breed upwards and so it is perfectly possible for her not to be showing very much even if pregnant.

She's a Yorkshire terrier, first time I've bred a yorkie so I'm a little unsure

Recently happened to one of my girls - she wasn't getting any bigger then at 7 weeks she started to lose a coloured discharge.  Took her to the vet and he couldn't feel anything so I had her x-rayed to confirm - she was empty yet was scanned for 7/8!

At this stage of her pregnancy, I'd agree - wait.   And when she's a couple of days past her due date, with nothing happening, then take her to your vet who should x-ray to see what's going on.    I had one do this - expanded up to 5 weeks (I don't bother with scans which only confirm or not, a pregnancy at the time of the scan), when she didn't get any bigger.   Come her due time, nothing happened, so off to her vet who found 1 puppy in there.  She gave an oxytocin shot but nothing happened so she did a C.Section.  She said there was, however, no sign there had been others, reabsorbed.
