Hi,

Could someone please tell me the current average hip score for Mals is. I have looked on the net but find conflicting answers. The two scores I have found are 13 and 17. Please could someone tell me which it is - thanks

Hi Scott , according to the BVA page for the year 2000 , the average score is 13 LINK. Could you possibly Register with us and let me know what the other sources were that you found?

Thanks for that .....I have a Mal ..but I am not really sure which of the figures are correct. However , I DO know that there is a difference between Average , Median and Mean ;) ;) If you read the breed notes in a certain dog paper you will know what I mean :D

So in fact , both sets of figures CAN apply to the same results

Hi Scott,

I wrote the breed guide for Champdogs when the site was first started up. It is now out of date and I have since sent in two revised ones (the first a couple of years ago, the second earlier this year).
Unfortunately, despite several reminders, admin have as yet not updated it :(

The average hip score for Mals is indeed 13, so ideally any individual used for breeding purposes should have a total score of less than this.

The breed mean score for Alaskan malamutes in UK is 13.
