Hi all, could anyone recommend a vet that will remove rear dew claws in the south Hertfordshire area??
All the vets I have asked won’t
Thanks very much

Contact breeders as well; dewclaws don't need to be removed by a vet. Anyone over 18 can do it, but obviously it's best if you know what you're doing!

JG is right, find an experienced breeder of your breed or a breed that frequently has rear dews.

Another suggestion, is to join some gundog groups on Facebook and ask in those - since vets who dock are also likely to agree to remove dew claws.

Thanks I am in contact with quite a few breeders within my breed but unfortunately/ or fortunately depending on how you look at it we are not a numerically large breed and so breeders are spread out and no one is local to me.

Good advice on the Gundog groups, I’m already in a few as my breed are Gundogs so I will have an ask on them.
Thank you

How old is the dog ..... unless done within the first couple of days, this would be amputation, with a general anaesthetic.   Which any vet would surely be able to do for you?

I did have an occasional puppy with hind dew claws when I bred my toy breed. I removed them at 3 - 4 days, and as there was never any bony attachment (at least in this breed), there was little or no reaction from the puppy. Though it is common in some breeds, I have never removed front dew claws, and my dogs have always made good use of them to grip and to clamber.
