Man I feel like a first time mum all over again. I am expecting my first litter of pups any day now! Daisy is onto her 61st day. I had her at the vet earlier today as she has been really offy the past 2 days. Was showing a few symptoms of what could be early labour such as shivering heavier breathing clear snot like discharge and off her food.
Well the vet took her temp and it was of a normal range (38.) She also checked her cervix, which she said wasnt quite dilating but was softening. Then said that I should expect to have puppies in around 3 days.
Anyone else offer any information for me?
Someone said a vet checking a cervix is like trying to do a stretch a sweep on a human?? But vet said it wouldn't effect her.
As you can tell I am starting to become very nervous now! How you all do this more then once is beyond me I am going grey lol !!! X thank you x

Have you got 'The Book Of The Bitch'? This would give you loads of info, for those whom have not bred a litter before....

The waiting is the worst part of all of this!!  But fact is the apple won't fall until it's ripe so just clear any appointments you might have that will take you out and hang in there.   She/you should be sleeping in the room where her whelping box is now because all too often, bitches whelp overnight so you need to be right there.   I'd not bother with the vet or risk her picking up infection (sick dogs go to a vet) at this point.   If once she starts having strong contractions, pushing hard, but getting nowhere for more than 1 hour (each delivery) then is the time you need a vet.

Best I can offer is 'calm down dear'

ps   I read books - frightened me to death!!   Do you have a mentor to hold your hand through this?

Agree with MamaBas on this.  Vets can be VERY interventionist and you need to know when you 'need' a vet and when to leave well alone.  What you've described doesn't warrant a vet visit, in fact it would instead suggest that stage 1 labour is starting or not very far away IMO...
