I thought I read somewhere on my paperwork that if I kept a pup I would need to transfer the ownership....I can’t for the life of me find anything now!
Neither can I remember if I’ve transferred at a cost previously or was it just a matter of notifying the KC.
Can anyone advise what I need to do please?
IS this a pup you bred? If so you already have the Registration form - I don't bother to change the ownership as it already shows me as breeder - never had an issue when registering pups from them later.
If you bought in the pup, you should have been given the Registration documents when you collected puppy

If you've bred the pup just email or call the KC and they will send out the paperwork FOC. You do need this in order for health tests to be done.

If you bred the pup it's already in your name. No need to do anything.

You do need to let them know as you get the proper certificate which is needed to hand over for breed health testing like eyes, hips and elbows.

I've never had to with any of mine. The breeder's document has been just fine. In fact for hips I didn't even have to show that; just copy the details on the form!

I had to have it for hips and elbows and re eyes they stamp the certificate too

I just called up the KC and said I was keeping mine and they sent out one the same as I have for his mother that I brought. Didn't have to pay anything extra.
Thank you all .....I’ll give the KC a call, I’ll show her and have health tests done so don’t want any problems with the registration....

Its not transferring its getting the actual certificate out to you which new owners get once they put the pups into their names and costs the breeder nothing for the ones they keep

It clearly states on the covering letter that you get when receiving reg certs for a litter that you can call the KC and they will send you an owner registration cert FOC for any pup you are keeping. They are much nicer than the tatty piece of paper you get originally.

Ah well I must have the tatty bit ...suits me!!
Goldmali, I must have seen it on the covering letter, I can’t find that so have probably thrown it out!
Thanks for confirming where I saw it.....now I know I’m not imagining seeing it somewhere.....

I don't remember having to do anything for those I kept - but it has been quite a number of years now since our last litter. And it has to be said that many of my puppy buyers didn't bother completing the Transfer into their name(s) either. So presumably all those puppies remained in my name!!

That's easily checked if you have a MyKC account.

According to the Kennel club I ahve 52 dogs, including the three pups in my last litter who have all gone to their new homes and had their chips transfered. Also there must be about half who are no longer alive.

When you remember that even unregistered dogs can be eye tested and hip/elbow scored, it's clear that a registration document isn't necessary.

They do have to be chipped or tattooed tho

Eye tester here if your dog is KC registered and you don't have the registration document he will test them but won't give you the results untill he has had the document. Guess its to stops people who's kc dogs have failed pretending they have not been tested.
A friend had a pay for a studs replacement registration documents as the breeder who owned him could only find a paper that listed all the puppies together not the dogs actually document, eye tester told her the above when they asked if they could still test him without it.
>Eye tester here if your dog is KC registered and you don't have the registration document he will test them but won't give you the results untill he has had the document.
So if a vet refers a dog to you (as an eye specialist) you won't give the results without a registration document?

If it's the test under the BVA/KC/ISDS Eye Scheme no. That's what they told my friend, she wanted the stud tested the owner wasn't interested in it so she had to pay for replacement papers for him before she could test him.

I'm sure I was also told I had to bring my dogs KC the with me when I had mine hip scored. Just checked the procedure notes and for the non online submission one it does say the owner must have the KC documents if it is KC registered, online submission one says the vet should check the KC documents.

Not me, that's what the eye tester here said (sorry for any confusion)

I've never had to take registration docs when I've had mine hip-scored. And when they've been BAER tested, you just have to put the registration number on the form, not show the certificates themselves. All the etesters have been interested in is getting the microchip number correct for ID.
Remember that BVA records the hipscores of non-KC recognised breeds, and crossbreeds, and unregistered pedigrees, so obviously registration docs aren't essential.

Strange as I was told with mine I had to bring them for hip scoring and the eye testing and the Info on the BVA site says that if a dog is KC registered the documents are ment to be brought with them. I guess some vets are just more layed back about this than others.

I had to take mine for scoring with Marilyn and also had to take them when eye testing. If they are KC reg they ask for the certificate

I remember had to take mine too for hip scoring and eye testing ....
> I remember had to take mine too for hip scoring and eye testing ...
For eye testing they stamp the reg certificate with the results (gets very messy adn there really ought to be s box for the results, especially for dogs (especailly stud dogs) that may be tested annually.
For hips they need the pedigree information, not the actual certificate. As I know my dogs ancestry by heart, ahve never had to take the reg cert for hips and elbows to complete the forms..

I've always completed the form at home and just handed it over when I take the dog for the appointment. They scan to confirm the chip is correct and that's all.

ISDS eye tests are just stamped on the back of their cards, my oldest boy has 12 on his as he's 14 plus the paper copy of result

Same with KC reg certs, but it does make a total mess of the certificate.
