i am writing this message in the hope somebody has experienced a similiar proplem i am experiencing with my 4 year old basset called henry and though i have visited the vet on 2 occasions he has not solved the problem.

firstly henry is a typycal healthy lovable dog and quite suddenly he lost the abillity to jump on the chair where he normally sleeps so i thought he had damaged a muscle so i took him to the vets and he was o.k.and physically he is,but he is not happy and is showing signs of aggression towards people he knows which is out of character,the only thing i have noticed that is unusual is his penis and i spoke about this with a friend who is more knowledgable than i about dogs and she said he might need circumsising,i thought about this last night and she might be right because hoi penis never comes out and i also have a basset bitch called peggy and at times he tries to mount her and gets exited and still it does not come out.

i have looked at it and i do think it is it is a little swollen but i can not be sure,it is a holiday weekend here in tenerife due to the carnival and i also do not have much confidence in the veterinario i go to here and i dont wish to use his emergency number but i am worried about him has anybody had a similiar experience with thier dog and is this a common thing and would it explain his complaint,i would be most grateful if any dog owner could help me or share thier knowledge on this subject i would be very grateful for any help.

I have never ever heard of a dog being circumcised - as they don't have a foreskin (only a sheath/prepuce) I don't believe it would be possible anyway! His sheath may be tight, but it shouldn't be removed!

Character change like this is almost always down to a medical cause, usually pain. If he is an active dog it is likely he has pulled a muscle (possibly in his back as he is a long-bodied breed) and this is what I would first suspect. If rest and possibly (mild) pain-killers don't have an effect it would probably be a good idea for him to visit a chiropractor if possible.

But I doubt very much if it is anything to do with his sheath! If the vet says that's okay, leave well alone! :)
