Topic Dog Boards / Health / Bioflow collars for dogs

I have just bought one of these and wonder whether they need to be on 24/7.   I tend not to put collars on my hounds when crated and I'm also a bit worried about whether wearing a collar all the time could make for a moist area under the chin - bearing in mind this is on my Basset.   I have emailed the company, but they take their time answering, and haven't yet.

Too late to add to my first post - is it ok to use these collars with a microchipped dog??    I should have checked, but forgot.

Zuma is chipped and has worn one 24/7 for past two years or so with no apparent problems. If they are on reasonably tight there is not really anything to catch in bars of a crate.

It's the one reason I never tried one with Otto, he never wore a collar around the house. Caused problems with his dewlap.
Hope Frankie is alright.

Thanks both but I really need to know whether to be most effective, the collar HAS to be left on 24/7?

Lacy I don't want to put Frankie back on Metacam after his recent gastric problem, even if it had nothing to do with Metacam.   I gave him some again a few days ago, and his stools afterwards were not as firm as I like to see.   My vet said if this happened, I was to take him off, and they'd switch him to 'something else'.  So at that point I thought the Bioflow worth trying.  Anything rather than risk him being ill and on a drip for 2 nights again, or another £800+ bill!

Bioflows seem to either work very well or make very little difference. We used one on a dog with no noticable effect but used one on daughters Rott which worked minor miracles, to the extent that if it was off for 24 hrs or more she was really stiff and lame and it took 2/3 days to get full effect again.
Only suggestion is get one to try, put it on Frankie 24/7 for 3/4 weeks, note any improvement, then see what happens over a period if you take it off when crated.

Why not contact the manufacturer and ask...?

I have, but am still waiting for a reply!!!   It's faster to ask here

I used a Bio flow collar on a golden and she wore it 24/7, but then I didn’t use a crate with the dogs in those days (I don’t think they existed then). It worked well for her for at least a year before she further deteriorated with her spondylosis. No moist areas or itchyness.
Also used it on another golden and very little effect, but she wasn’t particularly arthritic.

Just to say Bioflow did get back to me and said it wasn't 'necessary' for my boy to wear his collar 24/7 if I didn't want that.

I tried asking on an arthritis group (no details given beyond the question itself) and they were hopeless.  I got mostly 'this brand is better' replies so I'm glad Bioflow responded!
