Topic Dog Boards / General / Finding registration info

It's an absurdly long shot, and I dare say the answer is 'nope', but I'm trying to find out if Abe is KC reg or not.  His previous owner is completely ignoring me for reasons unfathomable, so I can't even get his vet notes, never mind find out from them if he's registered.

All I have is his DOB and that he was living in Bournemouth, but he could have come from anywhere, of course.  Possibly could have come from London as a fair chunk of time was being spent there.

He's show type, but not amazing quality.

If that is all the information you have then it is unlikely.
Depends if his breed is high in registration or not of course..you might have 2 litters of his breed, born on the same date. Location of where he was living wont be available. All the data available will be breeders name, date of birth, sires name, the BRS he appeared in, dams name, BRS she appeared in, dams date of birth & her previous litter, then number the litter is & amount of puppies in total. Then listed is the names, sex & colour of puppy. BRS is the UK KC Breed Records Supplement which is a quarterly publication which is split into the 7 groups. I subscribe to the Hound Group.

Definitely high registration, he's a dobermann.

Vet notes are important but he may not even be registered...Maybe the person who had him is hiding something, if they wont let you have vet notes...or maybe not.

Yeah if you have his DOB see if you can find someone with the breed records supplement from the KC and find any litters from that quarter with the same DOB.

He may not even be registered...

He is microchipped ? Perhaps there's something on his microchip record thst might help ? A friend who breeds puts the KC name on the puppies Petlog entry as the  name of dog plus their KC number
- By Nikita [gb] Date 01.04.19 11:33 UTC
His microchip is how i got his DOB but theres no other info on it.

Certainly hiding something - Abe has a vicious guarding streak and rather a lot of tell tale tiny white hairs on his head.  Plus he arrived with a horrific psuedomonas infection, although that was well hidden.

I know he may not be registered, which makes it an even longer long shot!  But if he is then that info would be useful, medically.

Sorry Nikita, my most recent post was in reply to tectona..I should have used the quotes, so there wasn't a confusion.

Oooh not good, good job he's with a knowledgeable owner now. Poor lad could have been abused before coming to you.

Sounds like he's fallen on his paws

I don't think he was, I think he was having arguments with the other dog there because his guarding is directed at them here.  The hairs are tiny patches, 2 or 3 hairs only, so more like little scrapes and scratches.  He does damage and goes for ears so they could be scrapes from attempted defence.

Registrations for Dobes re not all that high, less than 1500 a year last two years, so Nikita might be lucky. Statistically that's about 4 litters that could share a DOB.

Whilst vet notes/history could be useful, when I've switched vets, which over the years I have done quite a lot, for various reasons, I have never been asked re the previous vet or that notes were needed.   Maybe because in pretty much all cases, there was no ongoing health problem?   I have found that my new vet has basically 'started from scratch'.  Even if of course, I at least had their vaccination cards.

Wish this was a Basset because, until I stopped receiving these recently, I have all the KCSB Records going way back to the 1930s!  Hopefully there is somebody with similar info. for your breed.

It's not the end of the world, for sure.  It's just annoying and with the ear infection and his behaviour, I think there's information in his history that would be beneficial.  I don't have his vaccination info either which is an issue, because I need proof of vaccinations to put him in classes at one local club and I don't have that.  That means I would have to get him boostered just to do agility with him, which I'm not thrilled about.

I've messaged his old owner again to try and get the notes but if he ignores me again, I'm going to have to just block him so I don't keep seeing his name and getting annoyed!

Would the club take tires? I manage to get an agility club to accept one of mine after discussion in the basis she had been vaccinated as pup inspire of what appeared a blanket requirement to have proof of current vaccinations.
Especially  as he has the ear problems vaccine  arnt a good idea ,maybeykir vet would say no vaccines  in health grounds? Last thing u  need is the psuedominas flaring up
- By Nikita [gb] Date 06.04.19 09:43 UTC
That's a good point!  I'll ask them when I'm there with Willow in a couple of weeks.  They are good in that they don't require vaccinations to be "up to date" per se - as long as they've been done at some point that's fine.  Willow's not been boosted since she was a pup so I had to check.

Fingers crossed. At least that would be helpful
