Topic Dog Boards / Health / Mystery midnight pee

The last two nights someone has done a huge pee in the house, this is extremely unusual as I have a dog door and the dogs are very clean. It could only really be one of two dogs - Xylo, 6 year old silken windhound or Luna - 8 year old lurcher.

Luna does suffer separation anxiety and doesn't like going out in the dark but she hasn't had an accident overnight before. Xylo can't use the dog door, so if he needed he may just have to do it... but I think he would whine and I would have heard him.

I was leaning towards Luna being the culprit, she's a typical ditzy, nervy saluki type and is only here when her Mum is working, if she got a fright in the garden she may not go back out again but now I'm not sure.

Xylo often refuses to go out and can easily wait 10 hours or more for the loo (especially if its raining outside!) but he asked to go out twice before his walk today and on his walk peed more than usual (I think). I've noticed the water bowls were going down more than usual this weekend but with 5 dogs here it's hard to know who is drinking more. So I collected a pee sample from Xylo and it's clear, it seems he is possibly drinking and peeing more.

I've used my vets online service to make an appointment for him tomorrow afternoon, and I'll take a urine sample with me, any thoughts on what it might be?

I am of course considering kidney failure, diabetes, tumours and other awfulness... whilst also reminding myself that I don't know for sure that he even has a problem. Luna is in her own home tonight so we'll see what happens.

For one huge wee I would be less concerned than I would be for little wee's.
If one of them doesn't like going out in the dark and was busting then I'd suspect that one, but wouldn't be concerned as a one off.

Thanks, it was more the completely clear pee that was worrying me as a sign of excessive drinking...

However, he's back to normal today and I've cancelled his vets appointment, my niece just told me he stole and ate an entire bag (almost 1kg) of treats on Saturday, they obviously made him very thirsty! Stoopid, norty dog

Oh heck, do you know what sweets they were? Some contain some nasty sweeteners.

Mine spent the night waking me up to go out for lots of little wee’s, classic sign of a uti, so went to the vets today with a tiny little wee sample just about enough to test:grin:

Anybody have any opinions on cranberry, D-mannose (the part that works in cranberry) or cider apple vinegar as an aid to bladder health and to help prevent uti’s?

I once used apple cider vinegar (making sure it has ‘The Mother’ in it as that’s the key ingredient!) for one of my girls that had a double bout of uti but I’m not sure if it did anything? Although I now have it every morning, it tastes awful (so my girl would only eat it on her food and obviously diluted!) but I just chug it down as I have problematic kidneys  It’s prevented me having flare ups more than anything else has! A friemd of mine swears by ‘Cranimals’ that she gives an elderly dog of hers, again she seems to say it helps her girl although I haven’t personally tried it

They were all natural dog treats luckily, The Irish Rover chicken meat treats, 1kg bag! I've no idea why they caused such a reaction in him, the dogs have been eating them for years, though not in such vast quantities!! Normally I take a handful on a walk and break them up into tiny bits as training treats.

Maybe they were just very dry making him thirsty or feeling a bit nauseas.similar to us eating packets of.dry crackers. just looked at the ingredients and nothing obvious sticks.out .pleased he is ok and u know what caused it

Sorry Chaumsong, I read it as "sweets", not "treats". I must have been peckish
