Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Brown discharge but no season?
- By Alessiana [sk] Date 11.03.19 22:28 UTC
Hi all!
I noticed my bitch has very slight mucous brownish discharge, just slight mucous with brown tint and really small amount. I wiped her vulva and checked it carefully. No smell at all, mucous with brownish strings of older blood. Usually she starts her season this way but it is already two days and no drop of blood here. Dogs are checking her rear frequently, she is doing totally okay, drinking and eating normally, everything is just fine with her.
She is large breed and she is in season approx. once in a year. She was in her season in August last year last time so I assume she is quite early right now with season (if it is upcoming season of course).
I am really confused, should I be concerned about this brownish discharge? What is your experience?
Thank you!

I would have the vet check her just incase there is also starting

Why do you think this isn't her season??

I'd assume she is in season.  It often can start with brown blood, or end that way.  Brown blood just means it is old and has taken a long time to come down - so she is bleeding slowly at this point.

FWIW,  mine, coming in roughly every 8 months, would have a brownish show at the very start.

I have often had this false start to a season only for them to start properly in about a week.
